Verbatim new 8 cm Blu-ray Media for Blu-ray Camcorder

Press Releases

Eschborn October 2007 – Verbatim, the storage media specialist, introduces recordable and rewritable Mini Blu-ray media (BD-R/BD-RE) to the European market. The 8 cm Blu-ray media will be available in specialist stores from November and will cost between €12,99 and €17,99 (RRP).

Measuring 8 cm in diameter, the new 7.5 GB discs provide approximately one hour of continuous video capture time on a single side when high definition (1920×1080) is used, and approximately two hours of video capture time with images recorded at 1440×1080. The new Mini BD media have been launched in Japan simultaneously with the new Hitachi BD-compatible camcorder in August. In Europe, the Verbatim Mini Blu-ray media will be available at the beginning of November. The recordable Mini BD-R costs €12.99, the rewritable Mini BD-R costs €17.99 (recommended retail prices).

“Verbatim Mini BD media combined with a BD-compatible camcorder provides consumers with convenience features that hard disk camcorders cannot offer”, says Torsten Leye, Marketing Manager Optical Verbatim EUMEA. “Therefore, the Verbatim high quality media are perfect for the reliable shooting and long-term storing of holiday and family videos.” With the ability to record priceless memories directly to a Mini BD disc, users can eliminate the time-consuming process of downloading captured video to their computer hard drive. They can also enjoy unlimited capacity by simply removing the disc from the camcorder and adding a new one.

Like Verbatim’s standard (12 cm) BD media, the new 8 cm Mini BD media delivers the highest read/write performance and unsurpassed longevity. Advanced technologies developed by Verbatim´s parent company, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM), guard against deterioration in picture and sound quality – even with repeated recording and playback.

The proprietary hard-coat finish on Verbatim BD media has superior anti-static and anti-scratch properties for added protection against scratches, fingerprints and dust particles that can occur during normal camcorder and home use. By combining MKM’s proprietary recording layers and hard coat protective layer with its precision stamper and molding technologies during the manufacturing process, Verbatim BD media customers can be confident they have media of the highest quality and that they’ll be able to enjoy their special memories for years to come.

Verbatim’s new Mini BD media is produced to the highest quality standards at MKM’s optical disc manufacturing facility in Mizushima, Japan. The Mizushima factory is well known for its expertise in producing blue laser media
