I have a similar system and had the same problems with the DVC90 audio (weird clicking noise).

Does your system use Realtek High Definition Audio for sound?

I finally got it working (DVC90 video & audio) after updating drivers on a weekly basis.

FYI my drivers are:

Dazzle DVC90 Audio: - Pinnacle Sys, v 1.2.5.0, 4/6/2006
Dazzle DVC90 Video: - Pinnacle Sys, v 1.1.406.0, 4/6/2004

Realtek High Definition Audio: - Realtek, v 6.0.1.5490, 10/2/2007 (R1.79)

Running dxdiag.exe is helpful to find driver configuration.

You must have the DVC90 plugged-in in order to view the device properties (Device Manager - Sound)

I believe the Realtex update did the trick. (worked after Realtek R1.75 update) latest is R1.79.

Hope this helps.

oK, I just downloaded R1.79.  Unzipped, and install wizard came up.  Now I have a very, very dumb question. A window comes up and says "This program will remove original driver.  Once original driver is removed, go back to original driver package to click setup.exe again.  ....will make new driver installed."  When it says "go back to original driver package" , does that mean the one that came with the computer, or the one I just downloaded.  I don't have the original driver package that came with computer.  I am so hesitant to do anything wrong at this time.  I'm very excited at the possibility that this might be the cure, just want to do it right.  Sorry I don't understand these things better.     MK

The first time you run the R1.79 Installer, it will just uninstall any realtek driver that is installed.

When you restart, the system will revert to Windows Microsoft driver.

When you run the installer again it should install the R1.79 version of drivers.
(It also confused me when I first ran it)

Have the same driver numbers you listed for Dazzle.  Updated Realtech to R1.79, everything installed and is recognized in Device Manager.  Still no sound.  In capture, under the preview window, options, Dazzle still does not show up - just Realtech Hi Definition and my microphone.  I can't believe this, I was very hopeful.  Thanks for the help.   MK

Try putting the connection to the dazzle on one of the Back USB ports of your computer.   I don't remember if you have a lap top or a desk top.  With desktop computers, some of the front USB port just won't work properly.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

Steve, I'm nearly certain that the problem is between Vista and the Realtek HD audio - I have that chipset here on my box and it's been driving me crazy even in XP - to such an extent that I'm seriously considering disabling it and going for a dedicated sound card (made by anyone BUT Realtek)

Since I don't have Vista, you are probably correct.  Does Visa have WMM?  If so, perhaps the OP can try using that -- it was suggested long ago on the Dazzle users group site.  If the poster can get audio that way,  that would be another data point but not a solution.

Here are some of the things I had to do:

Open Sound - Recording Devices

Show - Disabled devices
Show - Disconnected Devices

Make sure the Stereo Mix is 'enabled' and 'Working' (I had to disable 'Microphone' before Stereo mix had green check mark, as it would not let me set 'Stereo Mix' as default)

Select Stereo Mix - Properties, Select 'Level' tab, and verify Stereo Mix is not muted.

Additional comments:
Some where along the line I installed EMC10. I removed EMC9 as precautionary measure.
I believe the DVC was working with EMC9.
I recently re-installed EMC10 to eliminate a 'Runtime Error' when I invoked MediaImport.

WindowsMovieMaker does not recognize the DVC90 as a compatible device.

Made sure stereo mix was checked, went to "level"tab - not muted.  Still only options under capture preview window are Stereo Mix and Microphone.  Have EMail sent to tech support at Pinnacle - not sure what I will get back.  Thanks again and hopeful in getting this resolved.  But do believe my problem lies with Realtec sound system.   Will keep digging.     Thanks.   MK

Have you tried the re-install/repair of Roxio EMC? (as it is often offered as a corrective action option in these forums)

The OP is using Vista - EMC7 won't work (he's using EMC9) and what he is having is a problem with the audio - both the sound chipset and Vista and this is down to a combination of factors including the sheer cussedness of the Realtek HD audio system

I think you mis read the question mark after EMC, it does look like a 7.

I would be curious if MK has ever done the reinstall/repair thingy (EMC9 Deluxe).

Just did the repair on EMC9, all went OK except I did get an Error message:  Error1904 ModuleC:/Program Files/common files/sonicshared/sonicMC01/sonicaacdec.ax       Failed to register HRE result-2147220473.  Haven't got the slightest idea what that means.  Could this have anything to do with the sound not being recognized thru capture.  Went back to EMC9 and tried to capture after the repair, but still does not show up under "options", and no sound.   thanks again.  MK

xxxaacdec.ax is an audio codec related to mp3 files - while it's possible it would have some connection with the audio problem, I don't think it's the real cause.

I'm still at the screaming stage with my own Realtek HD system - I use an external audio modem for ham radio work and every time I use it, the sound input of the Realtek goes crazy (works in some programs but not in others). Why the Realtek should keep insisting I'm plugging in an input device when the relay shuts for transmit on a USB Audio Codec unrelated to the sound card is something I just can't get to the bottom of

IF it helps at all with realtek stuff in Vista, this is how I resolved a problem that I never found mentioned anywhere... Had quite a few problems with Vista wanting to use the wrong driver set after installing a few updated driver versions, particularly since MS provided some realtek drivers thru auto-update. This was verified by going to Device Mgr in Control Panel, then double clicking the realtek device to bring up the properties window -- as in XP can check the driver file versions. The installation of realtek drivers puts the expanded files in the temp folder (windows\temp if I remember correctly), so that file versions and dates can be compared.

The solution I found was a big hassle, but the only one I could get working -- simply updating the device driver in Device Mgr, pointing to the driver files I wanted wouldn't work for some reason. I found the directions for enabling the Super Administrator account by searching on-line. Once that's enabled you can delete files & folders in the Windows\System32\DriverStore\ folder... I wound up deleting the folders with Realtek drivers in them (note: they may not be labeled realtek), then running the latest driver install -- since Vista didn't have any alternatives, it installed the correct version and everything worked.

Again in case it helps anyone: It's not the easiest to find now-days, but there's a small app called RegDrop.exe that's been around for years  -- you can find the download by searching on-line. And it still works in Vista 32. Drag any .ax file on it and it will register that file in/with Windows. I've used it enough that I keep a copy on my desktop. Sometimes a setup routine will fail, and other times I've had one program register an older or incompatible version of a file that what I already had installed.

The other day I did update the driver to R1.82, but after restarting computer, I had no sound what so ever from anything.  So had to go back to R 1.79.   Was in a real panic there for awhile.   Thanks, will print out your advice and see what I can do.    Mary
