I've just recently upgrade my video camera from a Sony Handycam PC108 (MiniDV) to a Sony Hard Drive Camera (DCR-SR300).

I can't get Roxio Media Creator 7.5 or 9.0 to recognize the new camera and files on the hard disk.

Suggestions ? ? ?

You don't need to capture for EMC 9.  Copy the files, from your video camera, to your hard drive, and you should be able to bring the .vob files directly into VideoWave for editing.

For EMC 7.5, on the Roxio Home screen, click on capture, and down near the bottom of the screen that comes up, click on the DVD Titles on Hard Disk, and follow the prompts.

Do you know what file format the new Sony uses?  I know the JVC HDD camcorder uses a proprietary MPEG format and a hexidecimal filenaming structure which makes things difficult.  I haven't seen any of the Sony HDD units.  If Sony is using a standard MPEG 2 format,  would be as easy as what Bruce suggested.  You wouldn't even need Media Import at all.  Just use Windows Explorer to copy the files to a folder on your hard drive and use those in a project.

Hello- I specifically have this question, too.  I have a Sony HDR-SR7 and cannot play video clips using EMC 9.  I have downloaded all my files onto the computer and EMC sees the files, but gives an error to the effect the files are not media files (they are M2TS files and that is a file type supposedly viewable by EMC 9).  EMC 9 goes so far as to put the boxes with the film reels up to show it sees them as video clips, but they don't play.  Do I need a new 'codec' or something?  I did install the Sony software first before I got the EMC 9, but if I uninstall it, the problem still persists.  Could that be a problem?  I heard something about previous versions of Sonic software could interfere, but I don't have any other problems with EMC 9.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Sapporo
