I have a HP desktop using preinstalled Vista which came with preinstalled Roxio Creator 9. I really need help on this one. I have 2 separate accounts on my computer. One for me and one for my roommate. Roxio has been working fine for a couple of weeks then my roommate used Roxio on his pc account. He had some sort of trouble and wasn't able to burn a cd. So yesterday, I go under my pc account and try and use Roxio. When I open Roxio, down in the bottom left (where the disc symbol is) it says In Use By zzericzz, which is my roommates pc account name is. So I ignore it and click on Audio> Audio CD and drag my music to burn a cd. Pop in a disc like I always do and click the burn icon. A pop up says... The ATAPI DVDRW DL (E:) drive is in use by zzericzz. Please wait unti that project is completed and try again.

So I am unable to use Roxio until my roommate is done with his project. The only thing is he doesn't have a project going on. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Roxio and it still says that drive is in use by my roommate.

I am still able to use burn from Nero's free trial and also upload pics and music from a previously burned cd. All in the same drive.

Would appreciate any help on this. I want to use Roxio again!!!!

Thanks!

Not knowing what particular program your friend started, this is going to be a bit of guesswork

First of all, open task manager - give the 'three finger salute' (aka press Ctrl, Alt and Del at the same time) and open the 'processes tab. At the bottom, tick the box saying 'Show processes from all users' and then carefully read down the list for anything showing his user name and right click on it and select 'stop process'

Once that's done, close task manager and go to Start, Run and type in 'msconfig' (without quotes) and in the startup section, uncheck any Roxio or Sonic apps that are showing - this will stop them autostarting at boot

Needless to say, this has to be done as Administrator
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

That icon sounds like the Drag-to-Disc icon.Doing what Daithi said to do in msconfig should get rid of it and the problem.Another thing you could do is go to Add/Remove in the Control Panel and remove Drag-to-Disc.You're probably better off without it anyways.
