I'm not a computer expert and am at the end of my rope. I read online that when you capture video, edit it and burn it to a dvd, it need to be in DV-AVI format. When it captures to the computer through Roxio, it's saved as a .wmv file. How do I change the file format in Roxio??
I've even tried the Windows Movie Maker....on this program, there's an option for Digital Device Format (DV-AVI), but it's grey and I can't choose that option. I tried the highest bitrate offered, and the DVD was still very low quality.
I've got my video on a tape in the camera.....should I have used the memory stick instead?? Or, do you think that makes a difference??

Is the video camera connected to the computer via firewire? If not, it should be, if your video camera has a firewire output port and your computer has a firewire input.

The firewire cable enables you to capture the file as DV-AVI, which is identical in video quality as the tape. When you capture via USB cable, you are getting a compress file.
Make sure that your Handycam has a firwire output. I think Sony refers to it as Ilink. Also, make sure that your computer has a firewire input port. You can tell by going to MyComputer/Control Panel/System. Click Hardware, then on Device Manager, and scroll down to IEEE 1394 Bus Controllers. Click on the box with the + and see what it says.
You can get a firewire cable at Best Buy. Get a Belkin cable with ends that fit your camcorder and the input on the back of your computer. Don't get a cheap cable. The Belkin that I purchased was right around $37.

You are welcome, but make sure you ask for a firewire card and not a firewall card.
