Last night I downloaded a copy of MyDVD9 from the Roxio website.  The first thing I did was a "plug and burn" copy of my miniDV tape.  This worked easily and great.

Today, I've tried to actually capture the video from my camcorder and here is what happens.

I go into Roxio Media Import window.  It allows me to choose my camcorder as the device. I then choose AVI DV format.  The video from the camcorder shows up in the preview window and I can use the online controls to rewind the tape.

BUT.........that's it.

The "capture now" and "capture entire tape" buttons are shown but are faded out so that I cannot actually click on them.  What is my problem?  I've exited in and out of the program several times to see if that helps, but it doesn't.

It says I have 17.3GB left on my drive.  The tape itself is 43 minutes long so I should be able to capture it.  The capture works fine in Windows Media Maker.

What do I need to do?  I have a new Panasonic MiniDV camcorder and it does show up and let me choose it.

thank you, Gina

You must have a filename and a folder selected before those options are available.

Sorry Guru, but that just seems not to be enough. I have similar situation, and only managed to once (!!) use the Capture Entire Tape button. Stopped importing the AVI normally using the button, but now it's faded out again andI  can not get it to work anymore. There is also no indicative reason/error anywhere. Plain guessing that is what I am left with.

Tried initially to Plug&Burn, but experienced a failure/ crash in the middle of it. After that the import buttons were totally unuseable until I removed the half-finished DVD from the burner. Then the import buttons worked (one time).

I am afraid that I now need to reboot again to get this working and that Roxio is so heavy Windows that rebooting is also the only problem solving approach.

Plug & Burn is the most likely to fail, very few people use it.

When most complex programs have a failure/crash, it is always best to exit the program and restart it. Sometimes you have restart your PC to clear everything up!

I use some software at work that costs $20,000 per PC and have had to do 5 restarts before lunch! Don't know why, because it had run for months without a single problem…

Reboot your computer before you do any video work.
