Drive detection problems Several programs fail to detect drive

The following progs show "drive not detected":
Sonic digital media plus V7
Roxio record now

Roxio creator classic shows the "next" button grayed out after you hit the "burn" button and, in the burn dialog box, it tells me there are "no common write speeds available".

The drive is there and working because I can create a data disk using the "send to" function in Win XP.

Why is this happening?
