What is the best image size, image format, and dpi for images used in slideshows to be shown as DVD's? The problem is that I am using a square image and it looks fine in the preview but when I look at on my television or in Windows Media Center the photo is stretched lengthwise. Is there a preference as to 72, 100, or 200 dpi? I am using photoshop to prepare the photos.

Huh? It seems that you left out a lot of steps on how you got from square photos to viewing them on your television. Seems something is missing in the information you posted.
If they are square photos, then set your production in VideoWave to 4:3 aspect ratio. Click on File/New Project/4:3.

Like a web page, DPI means nothing when it comes to DVD slideshow. A standard DVD is 720X480 (NTSC). If you add a 'square' image like 480X480, the program should automatically add black bars to the image to make it 720X480. Widescreen is still 720X480 , but uses non-square pixels. Same would apply and image would be properly encoded still.
Which program are you using and how are you creating the slideshow? Are you using a wizard?
