I created a blu-ray disc with 10 chapter points exported and blu-ray disc came out fine and plays well, however,
when I try to export SD DVD from same project, it goes through to the point it is ready to burn, then I get the following VERY LONG ERROR:  "internal software error:\build\Dvdit_appre\63\Code\Dvdit_app\DvdCreator|SWVideo Codec\libraries\M2VFrameEncoder.cpp,line165 -2 Illegal mode and size for DVD"

This has happened twice and each time it has been a 5 hour+ process before I get the error.
Again, the blu-ray disc came out fine, but the SD disc goes through the entire build process then gives me the error.

no idea whether this will help or not:

I also would suggest that you might be able to grab your encodes from the temp folder before (in the project folder in your transcodes area - under preferences > file control) you close out the program.  that way you can import the encodes into DVDit and try to burn from those.  will be much less painful than the 5 hour transcode you are experiencing.

Somehow it appears that my project became corrupted.  My chapter points had not moved, but the video and audio were way out of sync when playing, so I deleted file from project , then re-imported and reset chapters.  So far so good.

Now in addition to the error message above it also adds "Illegal mode and size for DVD"

DVDit is reporting that the size is fine.  Somehow DVDit is not encoding properly.  Now, I'm back to Adobe Encore as I have spent 3 long days on this project.  It would be nice if software just did what it's supposed to do.

I removed the motion menus and changed encoding from VBR to CBR and it worked!  Finally after 4 days, a completed project.  Now I just hope it burns to disc OK.  Why is VBR not allowed when it is an option?  I know I've used this before successfully so I don't understand why it will work one time, but not the next.
Anyway, thanks Scott!

banders.  don't know the answer to your question really.  this is only the second time this issue has been reported.  as the only way to solve an issue is to replicate it, we need to know the steps that replicate this to implement a fix.  as we are talking about 5 hour transcodes, these can be long scearios to troubleshoot.  i'll have QA do some CBR/VBR tests with HD assets being converted to SD....

One thing is I noticed you usually do have to remove motion menus even though it is an option, it will cause errors.

The issue seems to be with VBR encoding.  When I change to VBR, I get the errors and failed build, but when changed to CBR it works fine.  A Bug maybe?  VBR does not work.  Anyone else get VBR to work for SD DVD in HD project?

Banders100,
I use VBR all the time...both for my bluray burn and my SD burn from the highdef material.  When I had trouble with the SD burn, it was caused by having some chapter markers too close together.  My error message was completely different from yours, but you might want to check that your chapter marks are not in close to each other.  Other than VBR, I always choose the PCM audio version, I had trouble with digital audio way back...probably a codec problem, but I have been happy with PCM so I've never gone back to digital.

This is probably not much help, but at least you know it can work.

Good luck,  bigmac.
