Hi - This has happened twice to me in 2 different VW productions I have created. I used a colored panel and added an overlay on it (a picture).  When I add a text effect on that panel, it shows up in the internal track normally when previewed, but doesn't show up in the production in the preview. The only way around this is to create a 2nd text track and use the exact same text effect (so there are 2 text tracks with the same text effect) and then the text shows up in the production. Is this happening to anyone?? and why me?? Thanks.

I think it may have got added under the picture. You could check that by selecting the picture and in settings move the transparency slider over. That happens to me if I add the picture using the 'insert as overlay' option. Instead, when you add the picture make sure you select the option bottom option: 'insert on internal overlay track of selected panel'. Then text effects will appear on top.

If that does not work, try adding the text effect to the colour pane first, then add the picture, insert on internal overlay track of selected panel.

You know what, I think that is the problem! Thanks so much Jean. I will try it out. Your posts are always so helpful.

I remember reading somewhere that Videowave renders the tracks 'main track' DOWN. Unfortunately, we can't move tracks around, but with planning, you can achieve the look you want.

I usually first delete all the defaults Tracks.  Add them back only when I need them. That way the tracks render the way I think they should.  If you want Text 'between' two layers, then it takes some planning because you can't insert tracks between other tracks.

You can achieve some interesting effects like text passing behind an overlay like they do on the News.  Add some transparency to the overlay so you can see the text thru it.

In your case, just make sure the Text Track you want on top of the overlay is beneath the overlay track.

And if you forget to plan, you can also cut and paste to your effects to other tracks, or add tracks as you need them. This has helped me out, but I agree that planning is the better route smile.gif

If you want to add text between two layers couldn't you just add an overlay layer then a text layer and then another overlay layer using the Show/Hide tracks dialog box? Seems like I've done that before.

That is exactly what I did in the above example. I just deleted the unwanted tracks first.  Most users don't realize the default tracks are just there for convienience. Can cause confusion if not used correctly which I believe is this case. Text was added to a track that was already in the wrong order for what she wanted.

Yes, you can also add more text to the same tracks later in a production, BUT you must keep in mind WHERE that track is in the render order.  You would then be scratching your head wondering why the text is behind an object. wink.gif

If you want Text on TOP of everything, that text track must be the bottom most track.

YUP! You are absolutely right. The tracks were in the incorrect order so that is why I was having trouble. Anyway, I did what you suggested and deleted all the tracks and then put them in the correct order for what I wanted. Thanks for the tip. Once again, I learned something new from all of you. Everything is working properly now.

Thanks for confirming that smile.gif That's how I figured out the cut and paste quick fix -- I had been left scratching my head and didn't have time to go back and redo it once I realized the render order of the tracks. Other programs that I have used (image editing programs for example)  layer from the bottom to the top, so this was a slightly different perspective to get used to. And of course, like you said, nothing beats planning smile.gif

Another interesting effect like the news example ... I added a layer like ggrussell suggests, between the two layers of the chroma key effect we had talked about on another thread, and found I was able to put the giraffe inside the "colorized" gift box.
