Roxio support has proven to be the worst I have ever encountered. I bought Roxio Media Creator Suite on 08/27/07. It has never worked. I recently bought a new computer and tried a fresh install but it still wouldn't work. Everytime I try to use it I get "Invalid Activation Code". I've tried everything Live Chat suggested, but it still doesn't work. I asked for a refund, they said take it back to Best Buy. Best Buy said it's Roxio's responsibility.

As it stands, I'm out $60.00 and have no usable software. I asked Roxio to just switch disks but they refused. I'm very disappointed with Roxio.

You bought software with a 30 day guarantee then proceeded to sit on you hands for 60+ days??? Yah, there is disappointment here, but not in the policies of Roxio or Best Buy!

You need to do a clean install – print the instructions out from here, so you can follow them to the letter.

At the same time make sure you have a hard copy of the Activation instructions from the pinned post at the top so you can follow them.

If that does not work post the exact error message and all the specs on your PC.

jballard problem is not unusual.

I've been trying to reinstall following the exact instructions provided. Software orginally installed fine except for MPEG2 error at which time it was recommended to do a clean install which was done by the letters and now after two months of various tech support ideas (many repeated) the system still doesn't take the CD Key.

Next step may be to reformat the HDD and install. No, I don't think so. I'll just trash and buy new software.

Got it to work!

One of the steps was to run a registry cleaner called emc9rmv. ( This has always been in the re-install procedure). I had down loaded that and unzipped it and thought exectued it everytime I tried to install. Each time I would unzip the file and double click the icon for emc9rmv.exe I assumed it ran!

The instructions clearly tell you that you will not see any action so you trust that and just double click and move on to the next step. Thus support folks never gave any description of what to look for or observe when this .exe file was run. I never turned off a firewall or antivirus software when I ran this .exe yet they would point to the fact that you must turn EVERYTHING off.

Tonight I downloaded the emc9rmv file. Unzipped it and opened up the folder again. This time I saw a different icon. This icon was an icon of a floppy disk. Prior to this I had always seen and double clicked a generic icon. I double clicked and again there was no response but this time I loaded the EMC9 software inserted the CD key and it loaded.

Once loaded and registered I went through each application and executed each until each application had registered and now I didn't get the MPEG2 error any longer.

This has been a 3 month ordeal. It would have so much simpler to put in a simple routine in the emc9rmv.exe that gave a positive indication that the application in fact did run. But more important I should have never had to go through this process to uninstall and re-install to this degree. This is really sloppy code development. Now I can run this software and compare to Nero to see which is truly better.

Hope this helps you!

4DD - I don't know how you managed to do it, but EMC9RMV is a zip file containing the exe and, as you said, all you had to do was run it

If you had read the posts, the instruction to disable the anti-virus was NOT meant to be ignored - what happens is the file starts to alter registry entries and any AV program will spot that and stop it dead in its tracks.

In fact, if you'd checked you'd have found out that people were told to turn off their anti-virus even to download the thing as they all classed it as a 'generic trojan' (it's not, but it behaves in a similar manner by altering the contents of the registry)

Aas a fyi, I have a copy here from the time it was releasded and the icon inside the zip file is, surprise, surprise, a floppy disk

I don't know why it worked but previous times I ran emc9rm.exe I got the message to allow the .exe to work, which I allowed. This copy of the application did not have a floppy icon. Now I run the file it ran and I didn't disable the virus software.

I have done nothing different nor added or removed any software. Guess I'll never know but the bottom line is it got loaded.

Well, it is good to know that you got it to work. The original poster (OP) won't see you fix, because he/she is like a number of folks who post.....a hit and run poster.

Hello - I am having the same type of problems. I did a clean uninstall from this article: http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/Creator/000086CR

I cannot seem to reinstall the software because I get this message: "The CD Key that you entered is not valid. Please re-enter your CD key and try again."

My speculation is that I need to run a program called "emc9rm.exe" but I cannot seem to find a link to that anywhere when I do searches.

Also, there is no mention of the "emc9rm.exe" program in the uninstall article "000086CR"

Of note: I am at the stage where all my Startup items have been disabled so I can reinstall the software.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Never mind - I misspelled emc9rmv.exe as "emc9rm.exe" which is why I could not find the link.

I was able to activate the MPEG-2 codec while using VideoWave. The reinstallation was a complete success.

Does anyone have a fix for the activation key issue? I've tried activating offline, as suggested by Roxio support. The problem is, it does not ask me to activate while my pc is disconnected from the internet (which seams to be a workaround). Has anyone gotten this to work yet? I get no where with Roxio support, and can't seam to find an actual fix anywhere in here.
