I had been able to backup Quicken 2006 with the Sonic disk writers that came with HP computer running Windows XP.
Up graded to Easy Media Creator 10 and Quicken will not backup using its backup program or Windows CD writter. I get message that drive is not accessable, drive is read only, or disk is closed and not writeable. Tried CD R &CD RW.
Only way I have backed up to CD is first backup Quicken to folder on hard drive, insert disk, start Roxio Creator 10, load disk to a project, add backup files to project, and then burn to disk. Disk Information indicates disk is amendable but I can not copy Quicken directly to it.
There has to be a better way. Any one found simple way to backup Quicken to CD?
Perhaps Intuit has a patch. Perhaps Roxio has a patch. Anyone have a work around patch?

Sorry, not a Roxio issue.
Should only take a second to find it on Quicken's FAQ's…

CD-ROM drives require software to copy files. If your operating system is Windows XP, then it includesdefault writing software for backing up data to a CD. If your operating system is not Windows XP, or if you want to bypass the Windows XP temporary CD burning folder and back up directly to the CD, you must configure the CD-ROM drive to operate like an alternate disk drive. To do this, you must install a third-party program that enables your computer to copy files from your hard disk to a CD-R or CD-RW. AN EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE OF PROGRAM CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.ROXIO.COM OR WWW.NERO.COM. Capilatizon mine. MarWell

They are talking about packet writing software, which should NEVER be used for backing up important data. Examples of packet writing software are Drag to Disc (Roxio), Direct CD (Roxio), DLA (Sonic), and InCD (Nero).
If you are just copying some files to a CD, use Creator Classic. When you click on Burn, uncheck the box that says read only. You will be able to add more files later.

Quicken used to require a packet writer but changed that somewhere along the line.
It has no ability to do a Backup to optical media unless a packet writer is in use on that PC.
V10 does not have a packet writer, nor does XP. Vista does.
However You can use either Creator Classic or XP/Vista CD Burning but not from within Quicken. You have to backup to HD then do the burning.
FYI: " CD-ROM drives require software to copy files. If …" There has never been a CD-ROM drive that can write a file!!!
Again, not a Roxio issue.

Up graded to Easy Media Creator 10 and Quicken will not backup using its backup program or Windows CD writter.
If you upgraded to EMC10, you must have uninstalled the software you were using previously.
EMC10 will co-reside with many other earlier versions of Roxio software, and they can be reinstalled after you've installed EMC10.
What application/suite were you using before you updraged to EMC10?? [full suite name and version number, please]

Thanks Jim. Since yesterday the thread popped up as 'unread' here for some reason, and I didn't notice the date.

I think that it is a glitch in the forum software, Brendon. I have had a couple of old posts pop up as unread, this past week. I know that I had already read them.
