I recently purchased Roxio 9 following the link from the tivo homepage because it is the recommended software for burning transferred TiVo content to DVD.
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and TiVo Desktop 2.5.1 "Plus"
I can transfer content from the TiVo without issue and I can view the content in Windows Media Player without problem.
However, when I try to open the TiVo file in MyDVD or Videwave, I get the same error message:
The file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added.
I've read the forums, and tried a number of items: removed special characters from the file name, made sure the file isn't write protected, upgraded to the latest copy of desktop (to get more codecs), disabled Vista UAC in case it was a permissions issue - no luck.
Also - I've seen that other people have posted this issue and received advise like "maybe the file is DRM protected" -- I KNOW that isn't the case. TiVo specifically forbids you from copying content OFF of your DVR if the content is protected.
This file is fair game and should work. Getting frustrated...
MyDVD won't open TiVo files

OK - I was completey wrong about the DRM. The issue here is that many people (including me) just got the TiVo 9.2 software update. That allows us (for the first time) to use the TiVoToGo features with Series 3 TiVos (which have the ability to record programs in HD). I thought that DRM protected files couldn't even be transferred to your PC from the DVR, but that isn't true. SOME videos - like TiVoCast content and stuff downloaded from Amazon Unbox - are protected that way, but the HD videos are different. HD content can be downloaded to your PC - but then you just can't edit or burn it. That explains the error message. Sorry for the spam everyone.

No spam - you had a concern and at least you let us know that the files are, indeed, copy protected.

I also can not access the .Tivo file on EMC 9 - does this have to do with this update on Tivo? Will this allow burning of recorded TV shows?
I have no problem transfering shows - it just says they can not be edited.
Thanks for the help.

Andy - that's exactly what it is - you cannot edit or burn the files

Okay, Daithi, I hear what you're saying, but the Tivo site advertises that buring Tivo content to DVD is possible. All you need is EMC.
See the TivoToGo page at Tivo.com
and more on their FAQ at:
TivoToGo FAQ
And as for the previous post about DRM, I get that, but Tivo says that EMC should be able to handle anything that is not flagged as copy protected.
In fact, according to the FAQ, EMC 9 should even be able to handle HD content.
