sad.gif  please help  me.. i'm using emc 9. os is windows xp.. my poblem is i cannot burn dvds-- no led lights. to go around this i copy with the image  file to make dvds

I've had horrible experiences with EMC 9 and the update 9.1.  I've encountered many problems but...
on a positive note, through days and hours of trying to make
the simplest parts of the program work,
I finally accomplished solving some problems, though unfortunately
mostly through my own trial and error
along with uninstalling and reinstalling 9.
Since it was trial and error, I have ran into MANY problems
that most are having and was able to accomplish in correcting.
I will describe how, <- in plain english
and easy to follow directions and in ONE spot. Hopefully I can help those
that are having the same problems and spare them the frustration,
aggravation and the time that I went through.  (Below is the problems I
have encountered and solved with EMC 9 using OS Windows XP, copy and
print this so you have it handy):

1.Problem with updating EMC 9 to 9.1 and the new Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0
2.Problem with "Cineplayer" not being able to play DVD's leading to...
Problem with Direct X and the "decoding" limits that Cineplayer has with WMP.
3.Problem with .VOB files not opening correctly in "MyDVD" and/or "Videowave"
4.Problem with opening .avi files ("x" marked) in "MyDVD" and/or "Videowave" leading to...
Problem with Divx codec. (Roxio's "version" and Divx's)

For starters:

Steps to take BEFORE trying to fix the program on Windows XP
or Windows Media Edition XP (ONLY, not VISTA):

If your version is a DOWNLOADED purchased version of Easy Media Creator 9,
like mine:

If it's a download purchased version, Be SURE to save all installation
files, your purchase info and key.
Hopefully you have the original installation files.  If you don't, you will need to
go to the site you orignially purchased the download from, using the invoice from
Sonic Solutions and redownload it.  This time, be sure to "back up" on discs or a secondary
drive, the installation files, along with the recent Windows
TEMP directory on.
(The installation program is HUGE, so be prepared to use many discs or better
if you have an extra hard drive.
You may have to uninstall and reinstall their program many times).

1.  UPDATE EMC 9.0 to 9.1?

-IMPORTANT-Regarding XP users and the new Microsoft .Net Framewok 3.0:
If you have the EMC "9" version
and your OS is Windows XP and you try to update through Roxio's "update
download" to "9.1" and you don't
have the new Microsoft .Net Framework 3.0 installed correctly (ANOTHER nightmare!!),
DON'T attempt this!
Instead research back to your original invoice site (Sonic Solutions) and re download
the original 9  version
from there. (The download will include the 9.1 version as a direct download)  Again,
remember to save all installation files and the Windows Temp to discs or backup drive.
You only have a certain number of downloads you can do from the direct site that you
purchased the download from.  Once you used them up, you will need to contact them,
and from what I hear, it takes a long while for them to respond.  So be sure to back this installation
AND your Windows Temp file up so you don't waste up all your download count times.

2.  "Cineplayer" not being able to play DVD's:

First, the Cineplayer "decoder" is not compatible with Windows Media Player although
it claims it is.  You CAN sort of "force" it to play DVD's but you need to download and
install:

DirectX 9.0c (NOT DIRECT X 10!, lots of problems with that update still)
and
The newest "FFDSHOW" (an Audio and Video decoding software aid.. and it's free!)

Afterwards "Cineplayer" will play DVD's but only with the aid of "Ffdshow".  Ffdshow
will "prompt" upon opening the DVD through Cineplayer.. check the box
when prompted to use the "ffdshow" program to assist.

3.  .VOB files not opening correctly in "MyDVD" and/or "Videowave" with errors

MyDVD and Videowave don't seem to have the capability to read the .vob file extension, so
You need to change the extension to ".mpg" instead of .vob. The "default" in Windows
XP is to keep extensions "hidden".  To "show" extensions along with changing them, do this:

Click "Start", then "My Computer" then at the top menu click "Tools", then
"Folder Options".  At that menu click "View".  Scroll down to "Hide extensions
for known file types" and UNCHECK the box.  Then go back to the original
.vob file and change the ".vob" to .mpg.  Windows will prompt you if you
are sure, click ok. (changing the .vob to .mpg causes little or no problems)
Then go back into MyDVD or Videowave.  It should now recognize the .mpg
file.  (Important- you may want to go back to the "Folder Options" menu
again and check to "Hide" the extensions because left unchecked, Windows will
show ALL file extensions to every single file.  So to avoid problems in the future in
case you forget to add the extensions while renaming files, you may want to re-check the box to again,
hide the extensions as a precaution.)

3.  Can't open .avi files ("x" marked) in "MyDVD" and/or "Videowave"

Problem is Roxio installs it's own version of Divx that is placed within the Windows System32 Folder.
One particular file replacement is the problem.  Roxio's "version" of divx includes one file: DivXDec.ax
and the Divx version is divxdec.ax.  Note the difference?  If Divx is installed after Roxio's installation,
or Divx is updated, it will replace the Roxio's version with it's own.  And Roxio does not recognize Divx's version.
Therefore .avi files using the direct Divx's codecs installed will not work.  You need to "swap" the two, one
place in Roxio's "Common" folder, and the original divx should remain in the System32 folder.

Here is the link I've found explaining this, and how to correct the placement, but I'd like to add, this didn't work for long:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...d&pid=67411

I've followed directions accurately, it worked the first time, the program froze a lot, but it did work with showing .avi files until....
I had to uninstall and reinstall EMC 9 again
due to the Cineplayer not playing DVD's and updating Direct X.
Then it didn't work at all after that.  Even using Divx's "All in One Fix" program.

The only permanent solution I came up with is to completely uninstall all Divx codecs and use only Roxio's version.

But even doing that, My DVD and Videowave still doesn't seem to recognize .avi files even though it's
their own version of Divx, so again, you need to use the additional "Ffdshow" program to assist Roxio.

I know this post I posted was a bit sarcastic towards Roxio, etc.  But with all the trouble and frustration, can
you blame me?  NEVER have I had such problems with software I had purchased along with many, many others.

Roxio, you used to be so great, what happened?!?  I was a customer for years, excited and bought new versions
when they came out.  Now, with all the problems and fixes, updates that don't work, I am hesitant to even think
about upgrading to your 10 version.  Please consider this with customers in mind, and apply fixes that work properly.
We shouldn't have to become computer programmers in order to "fix" your own software that we purchase.
