If you didn't have the correct codec, MyDVD would not have let you import the file. Make sure your video drivers are up to date as well as DirectX.
Are your burning direct to disc? Is that about where it freezes? If so, try burning to an image file and then burn that image file to disc with Disc Copier.

A listing of your machine specs can help. From the Start menu, open the RUN window and type dxdiag. It will list out the majority of your system with the exception of your burner. Put them in your signature like mine and Beerman's are. You do this from the My Controls link at the top of these pages.

Let's take it one step at a time. Drivers and DirectX have made a big difference for many with similar problems.
Also, please answer the questions I asked earlier. I'm curious as to exactly what happens when you try to burn to an image file. My guess is the same thing.

Added my video card specs.
I also discovered today that no video would play and it had played before,so i checked and i had no divx codec so i added that. I tried burning a Divx disk since my dvd player will play them and it worked and fast too. So i went back to my dvd added the file and it told me to insert a blank disk which i had already done. I am totally lost here.Should i contact customer support tech since this product is still under warranty. So lost.
Thanks again for the help.So now i get the please insert blank disk when there is already one there.Weird huh

Since you added a video codec, you may want to take a look at this tip. EMC 9 had some problems with where it put certain divx files and this tip fixes that problem.
