Problem burning audio cd's Roxio 9

I have used Roxio 9 for 12 months mainly for burning audio CD's in WAV format the native format was MP3.
I have never had a problem Roxio has always converted automatically and the burns were successful.
Suddenly the burnt discs will not play in my audio equipment - I've tried 4 different cd players I get the message no disc or bad disc.
When I look at the properties of the burnt disc in Windows XP explorer it shows the disc capacity as still having the whole disc as free with no used sectors.
It does show each track but not the titles only the track number - size is 1kb and format is CD Audio Track (CDA).
When I re insert the cd into the disc drive it plays the tracks perfectly via window media so I assume the music has been burnt to the cd - it just cannot be read by my audio equipment.
I thought it may have something to do with the automatice MP3 to WAV conversion but I tried burning the discs as WAV files - the problem still remained.
I did suspect the dvd/cd writer Sony DVD RW DW - Q30A but it must be writing something to disc as it plays when reinserted into the DVD RW drive.
The only other thing I have noticed when clicking around the properties of the drive is a "Recording" tab this has a box "Desktop CD Recording" and then a selectable option "Enable CD recording on this drive" this is not selected but I have never changed it so would not thought it is the cause of the problem.
If someone could give me some advice I would be really greatful.
Thank you

When you look at a disc with Explorer you never see the names of the tracks. What you do see is exactly what you saw,a .cda file of 1Kb size. That file is just a pointer to where the actual PCM coding is on the disc. That's the way the specifications are for the Audio CD standard.
The thing on the Recording tab to enable cd recording is for use by Windows built in recording function.
Are you making your cd's from the Home app or from Music Disc Creator? If from the Home app try MDC and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you very much for replying and clearing up the issue about the windows recording one issue clarified.
I have used both Create Audio CD for home or car and Music CD creator both give the same symptoms - What I didn't mention in my previous post was the conversion aspect. I am sure when I have made audio CD's before a box appears as each track is converted to WAV. Since having this problem it appears that the tracks go into the music list immediately - of course I may have imagined the coversion box previously.
Thanks again for replying

If I use either method when I add mp3 files from my harddrive to the project list they show up right away.I don't get a box showing conversion.I think I would get a box if I was Importing from a cd and not using files from my harddrive.
When you use either you should end up with a disc that has .cda files and is finalized automatically.
You cannot make a disc in either that just has wav files on it.They both create discs in the Audio Cd format.
If you aren't changing anything in your process I'm not sure what it could be.
Are you:
using the same kind of discs you used successfully?Same brand,CD-r and not CD-R/W.
Playing them on a player that worked before?
Here's a pic of a disc I made looking at it in Explorer. What you're describing sounds like a disc that has a session that hasn't been finalized but when making an Audio Cd that is automatic.

Thanks again Terry??
You have cleared up the conversion aspect.
I have used 3 or 4 different types of disc - to check the discs and audio equipment I have burnt a cd on an old machine with Nero this worked fine.
I will explore the finalisation issue to make sure something hasn't been disabled and stopped the disc finalising.
If that doesn't work I will do a re-install although a bit worried about doing that with all the problems posted about re-installing.
Thanks once again for your help.

Then what settings are you choosing?
I ask this because it is impossible to create an Audio CD in EMC 9 with Sessions…

Hello James - Thank you very much for replying.
I have used "Make audio disc for car or home"
and
"Music Disc Creator".
The former doesn't give any opportunity for settings (or does it) once the mp3 music tracks are added and the orange button is pressed it starts burning the cd. (I cannot see any option to change settings)
Music Disc Creator
Does give options
I burn at a maximum of 16X
I have used the test and write option and the write only option. (Problem exists with both methods)
In the advanced settings I have reverted to the default settings:- i.e.
Buffer underrun protection "On"
Eject after write "On"
Buffer allocation 65mb
Error logging is enabled.
I have not used Sessions - just one straight forward burn.
I am beginning to suspect the DVD/CD writer. I'm wondering if the burning mechanism can have a defect where it can be read by the equipment that produced it but not by other equipment.
Thank you very much replying and offering your advice - if I haven't provided you with enough information please let me know.
Thanks again.

Since the problem started recently you may want to uninstall/reboot/reinstall the software. (make sure you have the OEM disc before you start!)
