I am using an HP Photosmart D5160 printer and it will not print diret to the CD disk when using EM 10 software.
I have tried EVERYTHING, including all of the useless support resources from HP AND Roxio with no resolution.
HELP, please.

This is from a post round this time last year by ICC - it may help point you in the right direction

"An Easier way to set up for the HP D5160 printer is:

Well, after two hours of trial & error, I have the EMC labeler program printing directly to CD/DVD using the HP Photosmart D5160 printer. The following settings will allow you to use this printer with EMC label creater as well:

1. Install your printer using the software provided by Hewlett Packard

2. In Roxio EMC label creater:

Select File: Printer Adjustments
Select Printer: HP Photosmart 5100 series
Select Paper Alignment Horizontal: 0.00
Select Paper Alignment Vertical: 0.00
Select Scaling Height: 100
Select Scaling Width: 100
Keep Aspect Ratio should have a checkmark
Select OK

3. In Roxio EMC label Creater:

Select File: Page Setup
Select Disc (in the various tabs)
Select Current Paper Type: Generic (plain paper)
Select Start Position Horizontal: 0.25 (positive number)
Select Start Position Vertical: 0.29 (positive number)
Select OK

4. In Roxio EMC Label Creater

Design your label

Note: The printer will print in the center all the way to the spindle hole (not shown on the roxio template) If you have printable disc's that do not have a full center to print on, add a white circle filled to the center outline in the roxio design and make sure it is the top layer of your project. This will keep ink out of the non-printable center area and keep your project clean.

Remember to Save your Work.

5. IN Roxio EMC Label Creater

Select File: Print
Ensure HP Photosmar 5100 series is selected in the Printer Name window.
Select the Properities Button next to the Printer Name window (a new window will open).
In the Properties Window for this printer under features ensure the following settings:
Print Quality: Best
Paper Type: (HP or Other) Inkjet-printable CD/DVD
Paper Source: CD/DVD Tray
Landscape should be selected
Resizing Options, Size: CD/DVD, 120 mm
Print at actual size should be selected
Select OK (you will return to the Label Creater Print Window)
In The Label Creater Print Window select OK

You may or may not see a preview. If you do select start printing
Ensure your disc tray with printable disc is loaded in the printer
ON YOUR PRINTER press the print button

This works for me. I am using EMC 7.1.1.189 build. However I expect it will work for your version as well.
This is only set for the normal size, 120mm, CD/DVDs. If you use the smaller, 80mm, size you will have to adjust these settings to make it work for you (at least until Roxio actually makes a template for it).

The print is fantastic and I no longer have to play with peel and stick labels.
ROXIO - Feel free to verify these settings for an update to your program.

I hope this will help some of you."

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to override the default paper type settings that  come up inside the EMC print window.
paper type = Epson Stylus papers only. Even when media window is set to "Print to Disk" in the page setup.
I have tried all the settings for the printer, adjusted the print spooler, and tried everything I can find in the documentation to edit the "paper Type" so it refers to direct to disk printing.
I don't want to use paper labels because they jam within the players, or throw off the weight of the disk.

I will try again, but so far I still have nothing but a lank "printable" CD, and error messages. angry.gif

Please RE-READ the instructions.  You do NOT select any of the Epson printers.  Select generic paper!  FOLLOW THEM EXACTLY - do not deviate.

Press the PROPERTIES button beside the HP printer and that is where you select the CD/DVD printing option.

Hi Garry
Am having a similar problem and posted a new thread this day seeking help but this seems to have mysteriously dissapeared? In my "file-print" there is no printer option or printer setup, nor is there a "generic paper" option in the printer setting page. I use all the settings for my printer ( Canon IP6600D) and I get an image on the disk that has printed on both LH and RH edges leaving an hourglass shaped blank outline centred on the disc vertically. Have tried to include an image of this and my settings window using "PrtScn-Paste" but this seems not to work in this Forum

I concur with Anvar. Using my HP D5160, I don't have a "generic paper" option, or the ability to see "Printer Adjustments" when I select FILE.  This is frustrating.

Anvar - Sorry, I think you may be the first person to ask about a Canon that prints to disc so you may have to experiment with settings to get it to work.

Stolen Jones - go back and read post #2.  Sorry can't help if you can't follow instructions.  Generic paper and Printer Adjustments are both in the print dialog box.

To both: Windows does NOT automatically set the printer to print on different size papers.  As far as Windows is concerned, a blank CD/DVD is just another different sized paper. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST CLICK ON PRINTER PROPERTIES and make sure the printer driver is set to print on CD/DVD.

I have an HP D5160 printer and have been printing directly to blank media of the correct kind for some time now. After fighting all the myrid of steps necessary to get the printer to print directly to  a disc, I decided to get a label software that was a no brains type set up. I am using "Acoustica" software. It has the HP D5160 printer in it's list of printers, so after designing a label it's just a matter of choosing that printer series and then click on "Print".

NONE of the suggestions work in Roxio label creator 10 for the HP printers, even after reading AND  following all the suggestions. No such item as "generic paper" shows, just "plain paper", I have even tried re-installing, no luck.
Using a4 cuts off the top of the label, a5 gives more of the label but still chops the top off. I even tried purchasing an Epson printer, it still does not work properly, so I took it back. I am now using an HP D5360. That didn't help either.
I can print perfectly using Roxio express labeler, but I don't have the flexibility of editing that label creator offers. The EMC program is just faulty. No amount of tweaking has helped. EMC just does not play well with XP Media Center OS, and neither HP, Microsoft, or Roxio support have been of any useful assistance. $100 bucks down the drain for direct to disk printing. I am afraid to try to do any recording to the disks, the specialty disks are too expensive to keep mucking up.
I may try to install it on my laptop which is running XP Pro instead. It may be some sort of compatability issue with the media center programming.

The one good thing, light scribe works fine, but is a bit hard to read for people with poor eyesight.

Thanks for trying.

Actually it's just a matter of words - "plain paper" is the same as "generic paper" - just means unbranded paper that has to be manually set

I hope you didn't buy EMC10 for printing directly to your discs!!  You could have bought other software for much cheaper that will work with your printer the minute it's installed.  EMC10 is not a dedicated labeling software and never advertised as being one. I use SureThing which was the upgrade to Roxio Express Labeler that came with my HP Photosmart C5280 and it works like a charm!! No headaches with changing settings, etc. Good luck!
