EMC 10 and windows Vista Home Premium
Since today, I'm getting this error message when I try to burn something: "E: Drive is in use by another user or aplication"

In the lower left corner (near the CD image) says "in use by #####" wich I'm not sure but I guess it was one deleted user account from windows vista.

Already unninstaled EMC. Re-instalation gives the same error.
Registry is clean on every string related to old user #####.

HELP! I CAN NOT BURN!

It sounds like a Vista problem.  Maybe someone, who has Vista, will drop in and get your squared away.

I'm not sure how the packet writing option works in Vista - but did you just pop a blank CD in or did you 'format' it first?

Well, I just took an ISO image to burn... even with no cd in the drive there is the indication of "in use by #####" and when I want to start the burning job, a window pops up with the information "drive in use by another user or program".
I have just one user account now... and no other burning software (except windows native).

Does it still happen, after you reboot your computer?

I uninstalled EMC 10, dowloaded latest version from the website, installed, reboot, and... is still there: "in use by #####"
I really think is something between VISTA and Roxio...

I know nothing about Vista.  Unfortunately, I am going to have to learn, because I got my wife a laptop, for Christmas, and it has Vista installed, and no chance to reformat and install XP. sad.gif

I don't know what Vista calls Device Manager, but whatever it is, go into it, click on the + to the left of CD/DVD drives, click on your DVD drive, right click, and select uninstall, then OK.

Reboot your computer, let Vista find the drive again, and see if the same problem exists.

EMC 10 doesn't use Drag to Disc, which is about the only thing that would take control of a drive in that manner.

However, Vista does have a built in packet writing app which functions in the same manner as D2D

Uninstalled the DVD drive, rebot, reinstall, and... "in use by #####"
I guess this has something to do with packet writing, because the problem is very similar to the one that occurred in EMC 9.
Now the big question: drop EMC 10? wait for a roxio fix? wait for a vista fix?

PS- just found that using roxio creator classic (also installed) I can burn... what is going on?

Fix what?

EMC 10 doesn't HAVE any packet writing - it was dropped

However, Vista DOES have its own packet writing system, but that comes from MS

Bit of head-scratching here - but try this and see if it works

Go to control panel, system and select the optical drive and uninstall it - then reboot and let windows detect it again

Try putting a different burner, in your machine, and see if the same thing happens.
