This error typically happens when a particular registry entry used by Roxio is broken, and it most often shows after the registry has been cleaned.

If your EMC9 shows this error after a registry clean there are three ways of getting the software working again.

1) import a previously exported copy of the broken registry key that you have saved somewhere handy (if you know what key to save).
2) uninstall and then reinstall the EMC9 software to recreate the missing key until you break it again.
3) download and run Sonic's repairer utility from here. It will ask for your CD key and then replace the broken registry value.

Fixes 1 and 2 will not stop a robust registry cleaner from mistakenly removing the key again, although some cleaners can be instructed to ignore it.  Fix 3 should prevent any repeated breakage. None of them will remove the time limit from a trial copy of Roxio/Sonic software or make it into a full version.
