I can't record from My Music or from online. Message...Recorded Successfuly but there's no sound.

I have music playing from radio station and it sounds fine. I try to record segments with easy audio and it seems to be working fine. That is, until I try to play or edit it then there is no sound and the lines in the editor are straight and a message "says no line in". I have tried to find out what that means but no success.
I am on Road Runner with cable TV and internet connectiion. The computer I am using is aDell-XPS-410 with media center 5. ogdens, I appreciate your help.
