windows sees the blank dvd, and so does roxio until it is time to burn, then it requests I insert a blank or rewritable disk.  I do have a dvd writer and it states it supports DVD-R, but will not burn.

okay, sorry.  I was tyring to burn an audio CD on a dvd disk.  and Roxio said it was a blank disc until I hit the burn buuton, then it said I needed to install a blank disc.

Dell is sending me a new drive, they did some trouble shooting and could not fix it either, so maybe that is the problem, we'll see in a few days if that fixes it or not.

What program were you using to try to burn audio to a DVD?  What you stated above does not indicate a problem with the burner.  It sounds more like a problem in the way you are trying to do it.
