When I try to copy a DVD, it caches to 7 % and then I get:
Seek, synch, ATIP or mechanical positioning error-medium error
I've searched this forum, and haven't seen this particular error message. Any ideas?
DVD copy hangs at 7%

Hello Marty,
That is a message generated by your DVD drive and Windows. It's a technical way for the drive to say "Help, I'm lost, I can't read the next piece I expected to find."
That would indicate that you have a disc read error at that position, either caused by a disc fault (or protection) or a mechanical error in the reader. Try another DVD to check the reader, and clean the disc you're having the trouble with.
Regards,
Brendon

Ok...did all that. This error occurred using the "Copy DVD Movie" function. I tried again with the disc copier function and had no problem...copied 6 or 8 DVD's. Could it be a glitch in the Copy DVD Movie portion of the software?

It depends on what it is you're trying to copy - if there is a glitch on the source that could cause it as well
Also, you will get that failure or a similar one if it's a commercial DVD. They're copy protected and it's illegal to try to break that (unfortunately, whether any of us agree or not, that is the law)

If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
