I'm having trouble trying to burn .mpg file formats using myDVD. Why won't it allow me to burn with this format? All I have is the EMC 9 package.

Where are these mpg files coming from and what package do you have? If you have the retail package, did you activate mpeg? It should ask you for it shortly after installation or when you try to use an mpeg file.
