I currently use RecordNow Deluxe v7.0(w/latest engine). I'm trying to burn a Verbatim DVD+R Dual Layer disc with a Pioneer DVR-110d Dual Layer burner(w/latest firmware). I'm trying to make an exact copy of a software DVD with about 90 minutes of content. I don't think it has any encryption protection. I'm using the "make copy" feature and after it reads the disc contents, it then asks for the blank disc. After I insert the DL DVD+R, I get message asking for a blank or rewriteble disc. It's as if it doesn't recognize the type of media inserted. Does anyone know why this is occurring? It's not really an error message but I'm at a loss of what else to try. Perhaps RecordNow is not capable of burning dl? Any suggestions or workarounds appreciated. I've searched the forums and found nothing of any help.
thanks in advance,

Altho my RecordNow Deluxe 7.1 says last modified in 2004, when I checked the help menu there was no indication of DVD/DL, suggesting it isn't supported.
According to Wikipedia, DVD+DL was demonstrated in October 2003, and drives came out in mid 2004. However, it is quite possible that was too late to be added to RecordNow 7.
I know the earliest Roxio Easy Media Creator to support it was EMC 7.1 - an update to EMC 7.0. Googling for reviews for EMC 7 suggest EMC 7.0 came out in early 2004.
It might be time for a newer burning program ...?

You need V7.22 New! Dual Layer Support (with V7.22)
The free program below will rip your disc to the hard drive and reburn it back to a Dual Layer disc. If the disc is not protected.
Download the free ImgBurn. ImgBurn is a lightweight CD / DVD / HD DVD / Blu-ray burning application that everyone should have in their toolkit!
http://imgburn.com/
It has several 'Modes', each one for performing a different task:
Read - Read a disc to an image file
Build - Create an image file from files on your computer or network - or you can write the files directly to a disc
Write - Write an image file to a disc
Verify - Check a disc is 100% readable. Optionally, you can also have ImgBurn compare it against a given image file to ensure the actual data is correct
Discovery - Put your drive / media to the test! Used in combination with DVDInfoPro, you can check the quality of the burns your drive is producing

Talking of a software DVD but giving time content is confusing.
Is this source disc a data DVD, or a video DVD? Do you know it is a double layer disc?

Brendon,
Here's a better description of the content I'm trying to backup.
"500+ Animations
10 DVD-ROMs
Includes 30 matching Super Sets, which include the following animated elements:
3 Backgrounds/Templates
2 Overlays
2 Lower Thirds
2 Full screen wipes
1 Transitional Wipe
2 Overlay Mattes
2 Lower Third Mattes
2 Motion Design Elements
QuickTimeŽ format
Convert to PAL, NTSC & DV
Output to AVI, MOV, image sequences & native NLE codecs
Keyword searchable index"
Basically it's a video editor's toolkit with animated graphics and such.
I'm sure it has to be dl since each disc is over 7gigs.
I forgot to mention that i do have Decrypter and Shrink but haven't really used them much. Maybe that's the way resolve this issue?
thanks for your input
Fabe

Okay Fabe, so you have a data DVD or DVDs that you want to copy, and it is [or they are] over 7 GB so they have to be DL.
Shrink won't help, because it works by recoding video to a different size/bitrate and that's a thing you do with video, not with executable programs.
The help file for my RecordNow! 7.3, while saying that "RecordNow! supports double-layer discs when used with compatible DVD recorders" also mentions that "Versions of RecordNow! before version 7.1 do not support the use of double-layer discs" so it seems you're out of luck with your version 7.0
I would suggest that you download ImgBurn as recommended by cdanteek. He knows what he is doing and has used ImgBurn for both single-layer and DL discs. He got me started using it.
ImgBurn should do the DL job for you. It's complex, but that's because burning DVDs is so complex that there is/are gurus here who have never done it. However it is a very capable program and very well supported.
Regards,
Brendon

Thanks to all for your suggestions.
Seems everyone's right about the solution I need. I'm looking forward to finishing this project.
