I just popped in a new HP personal media drive and installed the included Roxio Backup mypc 7 software. When I start the backup wizard and get to selecting where I want to backup to, the only options are to DVD or hard drive, not the personal media drive which is recognized by windows as Z:\ Personal Media Drive.  I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on an HP m8200n pc. Any help would be appreciated.

Altho I don't have BUMP, when I went looking for my Flash drives before something else reqired a boot-from-WinXP-CD, I had to click on MyComputer, and then it would list the Flash drives from there.  At present, it seems to find the USB locations automaticly.

NOTE: I think that means it won't find the external drives as it boots up, which may be a problem if you have to restore from there.  This is a question aimed at some of the other Gurus who can probably say if it's right.

Does it have a hard drive marked Z:? That is how your system sees a flash drive, just like any other removable hard drive. Just select hard drive and Z:

Actually all it says is hard disk drive and when I select it, a box appears below the drop down saying  c:\Backup MyPC\MyBackup 00001.qic  with a folder icon next to it. When I click on that a dialog box opens and in the   "look in"  portion of the dialog box at the top I can navigate to the Z:\ HP media drive,  open it, then the    c:\Backup MyPC\MyBackup 00001.qic    is replaced with Z:\ MyBackup00001.qic   Is this what I want?  Seems kind of confusing.  HP remotely did a backup to the Z drive, I believe the way I just explained but even they were somewhat confused

Just to be sure in my own head, and knowing HP has or had a "hidden partition" for backup - your "Z" drive is physically separate, right?  Like a different Hard Drive Disc, or a removable drive?

A friend of mine divided his huge new Hard Drive into several partitions, and made soemthing like 4 or 5 backups - all of which disappeared when the drive literally flamed out.

That is exactly what you want. It will back up to the Z drive.

Yes my Z  drive is my removable HP Personal Media Drive.  That is the letter the Roxio program gave it on setup.

That is exactly what you want. It will back up to the Z drive.

Thank You. Can I bother You with one more ? Is this the procedure I have to follow every time I backup or schedule a backup? Is there a way to make my Z drive the default drive to bakup to?

Yes, you create a job with the z drive as the output. As this is a file it will overwrite the old backup each time unless you go in and change the job to create a different file name. Then either manually run the job, or create a schedule to run the job at certain times. It will create a task in the regular windows schedule for this.
Once a job is created, you can use it over and over. You do not need to go through the selection process each time. Only if you want to change what is being backed up or where you are backing it up to do you need to change the job.
You should already have a job out there as it will ask to save it before you run the backup. Just select it again.

I'm like Kalstran (only a few months later) - just installed an HP Pocket Media Drive and trying to create a Backup with Roxio BUMP 7. Is BUMP 7 the latest version of this software? The comments about where to back up were very helpful.    I have a further question, though. I have a multi-partition system and 'C' is not the System Drive for my main OS (XP Pro MC Ed). When selecting the drives for backup, 'C' appears to be a forced selection by BUMP 7. I can't seem to delete the checkmark from it. 'C' happens to contain my Vista partition which is HUGE - and which I don't care to back up. Is there a way to deselect the 'C' drive?

Any other useful comments and experience with using BUMP 7 with XP Pro will be appreciated!
