Per the ReadMe.htm file of EMC 9.1 Suite, during installation Roxio will determine if your video hardware is adequate and if it is, hardware rendering will be set as the default for both MyDVD and VideoWave.  While switching to software rendering is not a show stopper, quality may be diminished along with available effects per the Roxio help screen for the Tool > Options.

Setting hardware rendering on when your hardware is not adequate could produce undesireable results per the ReadMe.htm file on Roxio 9.1 suite.

For those of us that haven't reviewed the ReadMe.htm file, it's quite interesting and lists numerous known issues. The ReadMe.htm file can be found in the Roxio Easy Media Creator Suite 9 folder.

Contrary to what that readme file says, the quality is increased, using Software render.  It is a tad slower than hardware render, but for me, the quality is a ton better, when using Software render.

I agree with ggrussell.  Roxio should dump hardware render, because it just plain doesn't work.  The idea is good, but if you use an NVidia based video card, Hardware render, renders your videos, trash.

I'm not going to agree with dropping the hardware render process.  Other software venders to use video card facilities so fixing the issue is of prime importance.  It should be that difficult.

Try rendering 3D without hardware assist and tell me what your results are.  Use a low powered PC to do it.  Wake me in the next century.

If we keep telling Roxio users to circumvent issues then what kind of product will remain?  First it's D2D, then it's MyDVD and then Roxio drops Backup and other programs and facilities.

D2D doesn't even fit into the mix of what we are talking about.  D2D, and its predecessors, was always foolhardy to use, and it was used mostly by lazy people.

Now, I agree that using the GPU of your graphics cards should work, but try drumming that into the heads of Roxio folks.  It just isn't going to happen, unfortunately.

However, Roxio isn't the only one at fault.  The drivers that manufacturers of video cards are putting out, are highly flawed.

I was mentioning the dropping of functionality.  If we keep "poking" Roxio to drop stuff, then what will we have left?  I'm in favor or product improvement.  Quality is a big concern.

I don't know if poking Roxio will do any good.  Some of us have been doing it for 4 years, to no avail. sad.gif

Bruce,

You are probably right from all of the posts listed on this BB.  Still, all of the "long timers" should band together and submit a requirements and improvements document to Roxio.  Do it by mail and include the names of those supporting it.  Prioritize the requests so Roxio knows what is important to the community.  Perhaps opening a post would be a way to get the most out of your submission. Not everyone is going to agree on the list or the priority.  You may get only a dozen or so supporters but longevity, loyalty and experience with the products should get the message across to Roxio.  Try to influence the list from a business prospective.

I appreciate the Hardware rendering option. Although video quality doesn't suffer when I change from Software to Hardware rendering, the one quality issue I have noticed is a slight ghosting of the original shape when using Edge Softness on an overlay.  I usually don't need Hardware rendering in my productions that require a softer feel, so that's not a big deal.

I generally subscribe to the less-is-more school of thought, but once in a while the 3D transitions come in very handy. For an example, the Ball Mesh transition worked well in a production of clips of a disco oldies band. I've used a few of the others as well if they fit with the theme and seem appropriate. I think it's great to have the choice.
