Greetings,
In Roxio EMC 8 for Dummies, there is a chapter explaining how to assign a new thumbnail image to a menu button. Apparently, you click on the More Settings button, which opens up the Settings dialog box with 3 tabs labeled Main, Position, and Style. You then click Style and Custom to browse for a new image for the thumbnail. Three questions:
1. I purchased the software at Best Buy, and downloaded the upgrade. As a result, I was unable to access the "More Settings" button at all. I then uninstalled the software (per the forum recommendations), re-installed without the upgrade, and was then able to "Control R" into Settings. However, there are only 2 tabs (Source and Position) with no Style tab. Does any version of this software have this function?
2. How can I assign a new thumbnail image to a menu button without having to delete/edit the movie? I have read one "solution" which placed the new thumbnail bitmap at the end of the movie, forcing video editing to ensure it is blacked out. Is there no other solution?
3. As this software probably is a waste to me in the event I can't even do simple tasks like edit thumbnail images or add play buttons to the main menu, does anyone here know if Nero Ultra 7 supports these functions?

You would have to go to the Nero forums to find out.

Does anyone have any ideas how to perform the tasks in my post? Possibly I am expecting too much from MyDvD and should look to Sonic's DvDIt Pro 6?

I don't think anyone can answer #1 since that really wasn't designed for this version.
Depends on what you call 'edit thumbnails.
Open MyDVD
Add you video file
RIGHT click on the created Tumbnail and select EDIT TUMBNAIL
This option allows you to select any part of the video as a thumbnail
As I have posted many times here, thumbnails ARE play buttons. When you add a video file to a MyDVD project, it automatically creates a button and links it to the file. Whether it is a thumbnail or just text, that becomes the 'play' button. If you only want text, then choose a menu style that only has text. You can then edit the text to read 'Play Movie'. The screenshot below is from a project I created in MyDVD for my nephew's family.

This method works fine if I don't alter the video. However, if I use the "Adjust Duration" function to select only a segment of my video the thumbnail that shows up on the button never matches the image I've selected.
I've seen this problem discussed elsewhere. Has anyone figured this one out?
This is really frustrating. I'm about ready to ditch EMC8 and reinstall MYDVD4. Being able to quickly select a start and end point then select the thumbnail image to apply to the clip was my favorite part of MYDVD4. To see that that function appears to be broken 4 upgrades later is quite surprising.
