But what would I do with all the external hard drives I use for storage?

A 12-month subscription offering unlimited storage space is available for $49.99.  I don't have that much to store. tongue.gif
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

One would have hoped they'd iron out the wrinkles from BOT3 before they started selling the on-line version sad.gif

Actually, that's a pretty good price.

You've all heard me advocate online backup especially for disaster recovery.   I'm always amazed at how many people I run into who've had their computers fried during a lightning storm.

I have lots of family and friends who cannot take the time to backup their files online and are extremely disappointed when the files and pictures that they accidentally deleted are unrecoverable.

I don't work for Roxio, but this is a service I may get for the college student in the family who can't remember to backup files and uses a laptop which is carted around everywhere and has already crashed once in the first 3 months of use.   It's cheaper than the $100 power cord that I replaced when carting it around managed to cut the wires on something sharp.

I need to check this out before the next round of panicked long distance calls from college.

I would never trust my data to any third party on line.
I back up to an external hard drive and DVDs. When EMC 10 offered upgrade to BOT 3, I bought it. It refused to install. After trying, without success, all the fixes tech services suggested, I asked for and got a refund.
The only time I've ever had to reinstall the OS and software on any PC (in 20 years) was when my hard drive died on this one in January 2007.
Dell XPS630i. Chipset: nVIDIA nForce 650i SLI. CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz. RAM: 3 GB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM). Hard drives: 2x WD25 00AAJS-75VWA 250GB SATA. Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB. Audio: Audigy 2 (Dell OEM). DVD RW drives: Liteon iHAS234, HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N. All drivers and firmware up to date.
XP Pro SP3 , IE 8, WMP 11, all updates. Creator 2011 Pro.

it might be ok for the type who couldn't be bothered with any file maintenance (I do it mostly on the fly)

I've got a minimum of duplicates of everything
and in some cases triple or more
in the case of my OS drive, I create a new "Backup/Restore DVD" every 4 - 6 weeks
and I still have them all, that way I can go back to pretty much any point in the
history of the machine to within the first month of it being built

also when I'm working on something
I open the last saved version as "read-only"
and do a "save as" - so if something bombs
I only lose that small amount of work
comes in handy since I mostly work with uncompressed audio files
and I never delete the "version- copies" until the final
product is verified on a CDDA disc and a Data DVD archive.

and since my home PC isn't connected to anything I can't use it anyway!  tongue.gif laugh.gif

and HD's are getting cheaper by the day and with any $25.00 - $35.00 USB 2 IDE/SATA Adapter
you don't even have to get an "External" Drive
I've got 3 "Internal" drives in a drawer that I just plug in whenever I need
to send files off or bring files back and then put them away.
I mounted them in a drive "Caddy" that I pulled out of an old P1 or P2
and I power them from an old 386/486 PSU that I pulled from a dead PC

but hey that's not convenient now is it?

cheers
