Using BUMP6, I restored 39 JPEG files (total of 5.4 MB) from a DVD, specifying a folder in which to place them. I did not want the original folder structure, I just put the pictures in the specified folder. The restore was successful, and no errors were reported. However, if I attempted to open the folder, I got an error telling me that "Access is denied." Excuse me? What is that about? I repeated the restore, and specified to restore the files directly to the Desktop. Now, I can't even access my Desktop!!! Am I screwed, or what? Help!

I'm the only user and have full administrator rights.

Have heard of this before, but usually it has to do with something screwed up with the rights. When you did the restore, did you use the option to backup to an alternate location, or did you force it some other way?

I drilled all the way down to the folder containing the 39 JPEGs to be restored, making sure that they were all selected. Then, I used the option to backup to an alternate location, and clicked on "Browse..." to specify it.  Finally, I unchecked "Restore original folder structure".

I was just looking at the restore configuration options again. One of the options on the advanced tab is to restore NTFS file permissions. Is this checked on your setup. If it is or is not, you may want to try the reverse of the current settings.

I was wondering about that as well. It is currently checked, which I believed was the correct thing to do. However, based on what you say, maybe it's possible this toggle-type setting somehow became unsynchronized with its indicator? Anyway, I will try that. Thanks.

This sounds helpful, and I will try this after I attempt the suggestion provided by marlinsinger, should it fail to resolve the problem. Thanks.

BINGO: Right answer! This worked perfectly, thanks!

Although seeming like a good candidate, this did not do the trick. However, the suggestion provided by gaper1 was right on target!!
