Hi,
I start off with recovery wizard I follow all the steps to create the 4 backup diskettes once this is done I test the diskettes, The system fails to boot off the a: drive it tells me to remove the diskettes and the system boots to windows. I have tries this several time and get the same results, so how do I make my recovery diskettes?

I would find it much easier to be able to do this of a cd or dvd if possible and not use diskettes, can this be done? I would also like to replace the cd\dvd backup with an external hard drive or a usb drive, can this be done?

Several questions please help

Andy

First the diskettes are not so much to boot from, but to use when you boot from the windows install disk. They are there to be able to run the restore.

At this time there is no way to use make it go to a CD. You may be able to create a cd by using the 4 diskettes, but have never tried it.

The disaster recovery can not be done to a file. Remember, the reason yor system may have gone down was a power spike, which could take out all HDD. You can make a full backup to a HDD, but not sure if you can use it with the recovery diskettes. I expect not.

Thanks Marlin,
I've used this program since it first came out, by several different software companies. My last copy was a Rexio / Sonic BUMP had the same function, but it made a boot disk on 2 diskettes with out the need for a windows install cd. It worked great I've made about 200 back up copies & I have used the BUMP program to recover many times,  with only one problem and that is in the middle of a recovery the system stalls and locks up, When this happens I have to start all over. Sometimes I would have to run the program 5 or 6 times, before it copies the complete dvd to the C drive.

Any way on this version I'll need to boot from the windows install disk then run the diskettes, of course I do not have an install disk, is there another way to do it.

That may have been with the Windows 95 series. M$ tightened things up on XP so that you can not do the restore without booting to the install CD.

As for no install disk, I assume  you bought this from Dell or some other company. They usually give you a restore disk, or there is a partition on your hard drive from which you can create a restore disk. Those are usually bootable. If not, you could restore windows, install BUMP, and restore the whole system from the DR disks or a full system restore from a HDD backup.
