Any ideas on what? If the source is "pixely" the outout will of course also be pixely maybe even more so.
Where did the source video come from? In what format is it, mpeg1 or mpeg2?

no the source file is not pixely or i would not have asked. it is an mpg file and plays great in windows media player. i used 3d picture album to create a video clip and then imported to roxio. it played very nicely before but now is pixely. the pictures look jagged.

Quoting from your initial post: "i imported some video clips .mpg and they are very pixely"

Could you describe step-by-step what you are doing, what program in EMC 10 suite you are using. Where did thempg clip come from? Is it mpeg1 or mpeg2?

[you know, i was hesitant to ask for help because from some of the other post responders were sarcastic and ugly and that is not what i am looking for. i appreciate any help i can get but without scarcasm and belittling.

i am using emc 9. i created a video clip in 3d picture album commercial suite. it is an mpg file. does not say mpg1 or mpg2 just mpg. i went tro videowave and clicked add video.

I don;t think walt is trying to be sarcastic or belittling. He's just trying to get you to give some specifics about the video file you are using. An .mpg file could contain any number of video formats, including mpeg1 or mpeg2, with different aspect ratios and compression. The more it's compressed, the lower the quality it is going to be. Playing the file in a video "player", like WMP does not give a true indication of it's actual quality when converted to mpeg2 DVD standard.

Try using the Gspot software to get the specifics of the file and post that.

I apologize if you find this as "sarchastic or ugly" but you have me confused.

Are you using 3D Album or are you using the Roxio product? Are you using 3D album to create your production and using the Roxio suite to burn to DVD? I read the write-up and it is not clear if that 3D Album has DVD burning capability. I don't think it does.

Are you adding a menu in My DVD or are you creating the DVD without a menu?

It looks like you can output the production to mpg2 or AVI. If you use 3D Album to create the production I would output it as an AVI file and then add that AVI file to My DVD to burn it to an ISO file and then preview the ISO file in Disc Copier before you copy the ISO file to the disc. If you don't see the pixelation, then you won't see it on the DVD.

Use the AVI option so you don't have two encoding of the file. 3D Album would encode the file to mpg2 and then if the file was not exactly the same quality mpg2 file, the Roxio product would re-encode it. If you output as an AVI file, then the file would only be encoded to DVD format once by Roxio.

As far as I can tell, your video card (LE rather than GE?) is almost an OEM model with some on board memory.  Do you know how much? It also uses turbo cache so it gets the rest of the memory from your mother board (main memory).  It is acceptable for this program, at best  In My DVD, go to the top menu and select tools, options and put a dot near software before you run encode to the ISO file.

How much video "time" are you trying to put on a DVD. Anything more than 1 hour will be reduced in quality to fit on the disc. You can put a little less than 2 hours on a standard DVD at a lower resolution.

Steve, here's how I read what the OP is doing, they're capturing a commercial that they're downloading/playing using 3D Album.  Now, if that's true, it's probable that the size of the image being captured is something small, 320x240?  Smaller?  When that's played on the PC monitor, at that size it'll look fine, but obviously when it gets blown up to full size, it's going to look terribly pixellated, and that's just a function of "stretching" a small image to fill a screen.

Angelique, is what I described above anything like what you're doing?  If not, we're trying to find out precisely how you're getting your .MPG file, are you capturing it as it's playing on your screen monitor?  Are you downloading it from somewhere?  What is the role of 3D Album in the process you're using?  What is the original size (width/height) of the clip you're working with?  Do you realize if it's some small size, that when you blow it up to fill a screen, it's going to look pixellated?  That's not a problem with the software, it's simply the case that your original clip is very low resolution.

So, no one is trying to be sarcastic here, we simply need to fully understand what you're doing, and how you're doing it to be able to help you.

Edit - Having re-read what was said before, I don't think my initial impression of capturing something was correct, but we need to know more about what you're doing with 3D Album.

i am not a "technical" as some so i am going to do my best to describe what i am trying to do here to give those trying to help a better idea! i took some pictures and used 3dalbum to create a 3d clip. i saved it as a dvd ntsc file. then i went in to roxio's video wave and am making a presentation with the video clip and some other pictures. i made one and it looked awesome. then i went back and made some corrections and ever since it has been pixely. i did not change anything that i can think of that would have made a difference in that. i just moved some pictures around. i then tried to start completely over and still get the pixelated images.

i have tried just a small minute and a half clip and it was pixley, i tried a longer one and got the same result. so the length didnt see to be an issue.

i found that it is an mpg 1 file. when i add picture/video clip from videowave and then click properties and go to the detail tab is shows the frame size is 352x240 pixels. which reading one of the above comments that is small. i have another clip i tried that is 720x576 that is a little better but not great.

i have not added a menu or anything at this point. no music even. i have

i appreciate all your help! i hope this gives a little more info

sknis: i am going to try as an avi file as you suggested ....will let you know the results

thanks again

In MyDVD, click on Tools/Options, and change to Software render.  Then burn your production.

If and when you run out of ideas! Try this, in MyDVD project settings, default encoding settings, video, set the max bitrate at 7.0mbps burn it as a ISO Image or folder set. Then burn to a DVD in disc copier, did that help any?

Start, all programs, Roxio Easy Media Creator 9, Copy, Disc Copier. On the source side choose video complication tab, add movies, navigate to the ISO Image you made. On the destination side format DVD, click the burn button, the burn setup screen opens. Make sure a check mark is in the box next to the drive with the blank DVD media in it, click ok.

Thank you for such clear directions! It was pretty easy once I knew what to do. Unfortunately it didnt work sad.gif I did notice that the letting on the menu in my dvd is even pixely. i noticed that when i click burn, it sharpens and then blurs again when finished. the whole program seems pixely!

I did as instructed above and burned iso and then to disc and the quality was still really bad. i followed the directions on chaning the bit rate to 7 also.

any other ideas?

thank you very much for your help

One last idea.  Use Cineplayer to watch the video file after making these adjustments.

Can you give us some information on your computer- especially your video card/chip.  Have you updated the drivers for that device (if you don't know how, we'll help if you can post what it is)??  Are you running XP or Vista?
