I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530 that came with Roxio media creator 9. I used it a couple times to copy digital video tape from a camcorder to the computer then to a DVD. Worked great for about 1 week. Then the program started to hang and freeze. I called Dell support (bad idea..). They uninstalled the program then reinstalled it a few times. Now, the program opens OK but I have no options under the photo tab and dvd tab (only "upgrade now"). I've tried to install everything from the disk but I must be missing something. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sorry but that is a Dell OEM package and they have created the problem for you…

Given the uselessness of the OEM package, consider just deleting it and buying the full fare Retail…

You stated that "THEY" uninstalled and reinstalled the program a few times with no positive results. Do you know what steps they took ? And what methods did you take when "You" reinstalled the program ?? And what steps did you take in uninstalling the program before you did the re-install ??

Thanks for your help guys. The Dell "help" was done online through their webchat. I gave the person access to my computer and they uninstalled it. Honestly, i can't remember the first method that was used but at one point they were not having sucess with the reinstall so they deleted some folders directly. I thought this was odd since I always use the Windows software install/uninstall programs from the control panel. Anyway, They did some manipulation/deleting of the folders under Roxio, in particular to the DVD and photo folders because that was my first complaint (it was hanging when I tried to upload digital movie from camcorder). I have the Roxio CD that came with the computer but thus far it has been of no use. Again, thanks for your help!

Forgot to mention. Since talking with the Dell help people. I've tried to install from the CD through the CD's setup.exe. I've tried the "Normal installation" and the "Load everything installation" but to no avail.

Maybe try the Clean Install procedure to make sure all the old junk is cleared out before trying again. the Win Add/Remove doesn't get rid of everything (which is true for the majority of programs).

Larry,
Thanks. I'll try your suggestion tonight and post another reply. I'm new to Roxio and vista so thoughts on what I can do to make it run or run smoother (patches or otherwise) is greatly appreciated.

Brian,

I also have a Dell that came with the OEM version of Easy Media Creator 9. The OS is Vista Home Premium. I’ve only used EMC to copy my User Account data to DVD, which was a nightmare for several weeks while I worked thru several Roxio problems. Dell support was no help with these issues and neither was Roxio support.

I have not tried the Roxio DVD or Photo features. But since you have Vista you can use Windows Movie Maker to unload your camcorder and publish the movie to DVD while you are working thru your Roxio issues. Email me if you’d like more info on using the Windows tools.
