Usually that type of display is due to your video set up. Do you have a stand alone video card - what is it - or do you have a video chip? In either case, you should update the video device driver from the computer manufacturer's web site, from the card manufacturer's web site or from the web site that made the video chip on the motherboard or the card. Also update DirectX 9c.
Go into the control panel if you have one for the video chip/card and set the performance to best performance and away from best appearance. Set the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to software controlled.
If the above doesn't fix the problem, your video device may not allow you to use those more complex transitions and you'll have to settle for less or upgrade.
I have seen more of a image move just before or after a transition with an nVidia based card that with an ATI based card. I think that others have seen similar issues.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

The way your production looks in Videowave is not a good representation of how it will burn. It usually burns much smoother. However, in Videowave, there are some transitions that cause a picture jitter or flash. Sometimes the same transition will jitter or flash between some pictures and not others. I have found that increasing the transition duration helps with some of that jittering and flashing. Sometimes I just change the transition and replace it for a different one in its place. From posts I have read on this, people who use software render vs. hardware render don't have this problem. I personally like having the 3D transition option so I like hardware render!! Let us know how it goes!

That is true too Steve. Thanks. I have also heard the nVidia card causes problems in that area, however, I have an ATI and see the same problems, but only sometimes. I have noticed that the increase in transition duration helps too!!

If it is a slight jump in the picture, that is a known problem with EMC 9 and usually only happens with NVidia video cards. It happens to me, if I use Hardware rendering.

Bruce - Does this jittering and flashing happen in 10 with your nVidia chip?? I am just wondering for when I get my new computer if I should go ATI or nVidia! I am most likely going to upgrade to 10 with the new computer.

Yes, it still happens in EMC 10. It only happens when using 3D transitions, in both EMC 9 and EMC 10.
When you decide to build that new computer, get an ATI video card.

I can't speak for anyone else on this, but if it was me, I would go with ATI. I've been using Nvidia for a few years and with the problems betweeen Roxio/Sonic v8, 9, 10 and Nvidia based cards that don't seem to be getting any better for my use, that's why I would try ATI next time.

Yes, Rachel is!! Is it a good computer?? I assume so. I know I have been talking about this purchase for some time now (Grandpa Bruce can vouch for that!), but I am finally really getting it! We had a bad month's credit card bill having to get my dog back surgery (don't even ask!!

I have both and other than the jittering that occasionally pops up on some transitions, I'm still not sure what I would do. On one hand, Nvidia puts out updated drivers regularly while ATI takes some time. If you took Roxio out of the picture, I'd go with Nvidia, but if the transition 'bug' bothers you and you, go with ATI.
While I agree it's better to build than to buy, it's not practical for most people. Microsoft has graciously loaned me (for the last 18 months) an XPS 400 and I've got no complaints. The XPS is the top of the Dell line and I agree with cd, get the 256MB card over a 128. The way software is changing so fast, even if you're not a gamer, you'll be glad you did. Also keep in mind (as far as I know) both the ATI and Nvidia cards Dell uses are OEM made for their specs.

Thanks for the info., Paul and cd. I have an ATI now and like it. I definitely plan to go with the 256mb. I know how important video cards are when using EMC for editing and burning so I want to make sure I am making the right choice. I will let you know in a few weeks when I get this computer. I will most likely be upgrading to EMC10 once I get it. I might as well!!

You and Frank posted some false information! Or was that a joke?
I simply went to Dell’s site, picked a middle of the road desktop and proceeded to the Customize screen and posted what I found.
Now I am sure you can find one of the “Bundles” that doesn’t allow customizing in return for a fixed price just to prove me wrong…
But is you poke around a little you will even find video card choices available in mid-range laptops at Dell!
