When I import files from my video camera my computer asigns them as windows media files.  I would like some help to find a way to change the format or find a way to use that file so I can edit them in Easy Media creator 10 Suite.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions???

Thanks
Bruce

That little icon shown doesn't represent the actual FILE TYPE. Just means that file type is 'associated'  with Windows Media Player.  For example, WMP can 'play' many different audio formats like MP3 and WAV.  These are totally different file types , but both can be 'associated' with WMP.  When you double click on one of those file types, Windows will launch WMP and play the file. Technically all it does is tell Windows what you want it to do when you double click on any specific file type.

The file association will NOT prevent you from loading your video into Videowave or MyDVD.  If you can't load the captured files into Videowave or MyDVD, you have another problem.

If you are capturing from a DV (Tape) camcorder, there are only 2 formats available DV avi or mpeg-2.
You will have to give some more information on how you are capturing. What type of camcorder do you have? What program in the EMC 10 suite are you using? How is you camera connected to the PC? EMC 10 requires a Firewire connection if capturing from tape.

What type of windows media file are you creating? wmv, wma or what?

Please give as much detail as possible

When I select a file to import the message I get is "the file you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been added"  any ideas of what I might be doing wrong or what the problem could be?

How did you capture the file? What extension does it have? Can you play it through Windows Media Player?
Please answer the questions if you want help.

Which Sony handycam?  Are you using Pixela or Sony Motion Picture Browser?  Might be best to use Media Import 10 or some other software to transfer the video if possible.

The camera records directly to a dvd disc so when I import it into the computer I import it unsing the DvD drive and the import feature of easy media create 10 suite.  It is is the MPEG format.  THe camera I have is a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108.  THe camera connects to the computer via USB not fireware I will also try using this.  Please advise if you have any thoughts or feedback.

Thank you.  Bruce

MiniDVD format: Record home movies to DVD-Rs and DVD+/-RWs. Playback is easy—simply finalize the disc, and play back in compatible DVD players, computers and even PlayStation®2 game consoles.

Why import drag the contents from the mini DVD to a folder and add it to EMC.

If you want to edit your video, then make sure the disc is finalized, then put it in your computer DVD drive.  Make a folder on your hard drive, and name it something that has to do with the video.  Now, COPY the files off of the disc, into the folder you just made.  There is no need to capture at all.

Open VideoWave, and try to bring in the .vob files that are in that folder.

Life is good!

Did you follow the instructions to finalize the disc and then copy all the files to a folder on your hard drive?

You may want to try this.  Make sure windows is set to show known file types.  Navigate to the folder and change the extension from VOB to mpg.  Try adding those.   You must be able to see the file extensions or you will end up misapplying the format type.
