I was able to add/delete/change files on DVD+RWs by simple accessing them from Explorer. This worked fine with EMC 10 and my old DVD burner. Since I replaced the burner with the HP DVD writer 1040d, I can no longer add/change/delete files on DVD+RWs by accessing them through Explorer. As a matter of fact when I right-click on the drive icon in Explorer it no longer has a Format option listed. After talking with HP tech support about the drive they suggested that I tried Nero. EMC 10 is still installed and still works fine to burn a disk, but only Nero's InCD will allow me the Explorer file add/change/delete capability and the ability to Format the DVD+RW. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

EMC 10 doesn't include D2D packet writing software, like InCd. Did You have version 9 installed at one time? Version 9 D2D  has it's own entry in control panel, add remove programs.

This was a fresh build on the PC (hard drive was formated), both the OS and EMC 10. Worked fine until I changed the DVD burner. With the old one EMC 10 (and/or XP) allowed be to add/change/delete files directly on the DVD+RW. Only change was to replace the  DVD burner with the HP 1040d. The old burner showed as DVD+/-RW in explorer/My computer and right clicking on the drive icon showed Format as an option, the HP shows as DVD-RAM and does not list Format as an option.

XP would write to CD's, never wrote to DVD's. Vista will write to DVD's with it's own packet writing software in the OS. Fresh build or not, in XP you had to have some other software installed. Again EMC 10 does not include D2D software!

You weren't using any part of EMC 10 to do that formatting, adding, modifying or deleting. As CD pointed out, EMC 10 does not have a "packet writing" software included. You must have had some other software installed that was in use. Maybe something that came with your old drive?

Nothing that came with my old drive, only whatever was in XP/EMC 10 as I installed no addtional software. But that still doesn't explain why it stopped working when I replaced the drive.

I'm sorry, what part is  different? As I explained in my last comment on that old post, I had misspoken about the DLA. As a result all the responses I was receiving had to do with using or not using packet writing software and the issue (old drive worked, new one doesn't) was being ignored.

So, to try and get back on subject, I started a new post concerning the issue I have. By whatever means I could add/change/delete files on a DVD+RW with the old drive, the new drive does not appear to support that capability.

Is this the proper forum to ask for help with this?

What was the old drive and did it support Mount Rainier write?

The new drive supports "packet writing" as evidenced by the fact that it works with InCD. The problem is, you don't know what software you were using with the old drive. It wasn't something thats part of XP or EMC 10. So unless you can figure out what software it actually was, we can't really help you figure out "how to get it back". You may just have to stick with what you did find to use, since I don't believe Roxio/Sonic offers DLA or Drag-to-Disc as a standalone program.
