My suggestion is for you to bring that video in a separate production, adjust to the desired brightness and output as another mpg (or avi). Then use that modfified file as your overlay in the other production.

1. Add the overlay as usual. In the Show/Hide Tracks dialog box, add an Effect (Fx) track so that it appears below the overlay on the Timeline.
2. Open the Effect Selector, and click on the Video Effects button to open the Video Effects panel. Find the Camera Flash effect in that panel.
3. Drag the Camera Flash effect to the Effect track you just added under the overlay.
4. Stretch the Camera Flash effect to match the length of the overlay that you want to adjust for Brightness.
5. Double click on the Camera Flash effect in the Timeline to open its Settings Panel.
6. Click on Keyframeable Settings (there are two buttons, Keyframeable Settings is the one on the right).
7. In "Add KeyFrame Here" next to "Key frame:" is a drop-down box with numbers in it. Click on the Delete button next to the drop-down box to Delete the pre-existing keyframes until there is only one left.
8. Now use the remaining controls in the Settings Panel to adjust the Brightness just as you would in the Main Track Setting Panel (minus the auto color correct).

One small point. In EMC 10, there is a separate add Video Effects entry in the add contents list, so no need to open effects selector first. Saves a couple of clicks...

Wow, thanks Jean
And thanks for pointing out that Video Effects more quickly accessible through the Content Pane. I now leave all panels docked and so have become used to accessing Video Effects from the Effects Selector tab on that panel in the Docking Area. But I am all for saving a few clicks whenever possible and appreciate your reminder about this faster alternative

Sounds like this one should be saved for posterity in the Tips and Tricks area.

You would think that a feature so obvious would be in Roxio’s new release, but I have not found it yet. Does anyone know how to edit Pictures and Videos added as overlays??
All help is appreciated. This is making me crazy and wanting to go back to my Ulead software.
Thanks,

Thanks,
Unfortunately, I don't think it's available in VideoWave.
I understand what you're asking for. I use another video editing program also and there are options for changing color, brightness, etc. for the overlay track.
But there are features available in the Roxio program like fly-in, etc, that aren't available in the other program. Consumer level programs just don't do it all.

I must be doing something wrong.
I tried what you suggested in post #3 and it changes the brightness of both the overlay AND the original track.
I was trying to change the brightness of the overlay alone. Is there a step I'm missing?

I can't adjust just the overlay alone either, both the overlay and the main track change.
Are you using an overlay from the Overlay Selector or are you adding your own image/video as overlay? the method behaves differently if you use an overlay from the Overlay selector. There the video "inside" the overlay does change but I don't think that is the effect the OP, you or I want.

In my experience, the premade overlays (Overlay Selector) are better modified in an image-editing program like PhotoSuite before being brought into VideoWave. ymmv
