Double Layer Dvd+r Problems

Hi All! I'm new to Roxio - just installed last night. I'm trying to back up some videos onto double layer DVD+R discs. I am unable to get beyond selecting the files to be written. The "Copy" button is not available. Any suggestions?

Use the Creator Classic program to copy files to your disc.  It sounds like you're using the Video Copy & Convert function which is not what you want.  If you just want to copy them to disc as data for archiving, Creator Classic is what you want. If you want to play them on a standard dvd player, you'll want to use MyDVD.
If you need help with Creator Classic, post back.

In what application in EMC 10 are you using? Or are you starting from the Home screen?

And BTW, If you want to write to a double layer media disc, you need to have a drive that is capable of DL. But I guess you probably already knew that, huh ?

Sure did! I had an on-line chat with Gateway and was "assured" my drive would write to DL discs. I'm thinking I may need an updated driver as well as following the tips from the previous 2 posters.

Mary,
please answer the questions, what are you trying to do? DL media is expensive and bad on the pocket book, to waste it!

Yeah, that's always the first thing I do when I have installed a new piece of hardware---Get on line with the manufacturer and see if there is an updated driver for whatever originally came with the install disc. You were smart to call and make sure of everything Mary !

I'm attempting to back up a movie, larger than the standard 4.7 gig disc.

What type of files and folders is this movie in? It it's a bought DVD with copy protection Roxio will not do this!

Sorry - I've been running back and forth dealing with a water problem in the basement. The DVD is NOT copy protected.

And the file types are VOB, IFO and PUP contained in folders named Audio_TS and Video_TS

Drag the contents of the disc to a folder you make on the desktop, right click, new folder. Open Video Copy and Convert, on the source side choose the DVD Video_ts folder in the folder you made. On the destination side burn to the DL disc, make sure at the bottom of the screen +R DL disc is showing.

Well, I just had another "chat" with the tech gurus at Gateway. Turns out the fellow who told my my drive was capable of handling DL discs was incorrect. The tech guy I dealt with this time was more in-tune and suggested a USB external drive for me to get. So, I guess I'll have to wait to try Roxio until I have the new drive in hand.

If you have a desktop pc and a techie friend? I would buy a internal drive about $30.00 to $35.00 from a place like Newegg.com. If you want some suggestions ask..

If those DVDs are standard DVDs why don't you just use standard DVDs instead of fooling around with DL DVDs. At the current cost of 4.7GB DVDs its just not worth using DLs.

Another suggestion.....

You might want to consider an standalone external DVD writer.

You can plug it into a USB port and you can get one that writes dual layer as well as regular DVDs.
