EMC 7 had a few overlays that are Avi.

The 2 I need are the Pointing arrows and the stars.

In EMC 7 they worked fine ie. you would only see the stars or arrows on top of the video.

EMC 8 does not seem to support avi overlays in its effect selector.

I can manualy add the star or arrows as an overlay but when I do the background is solid white for stars and solid black for arrows.

Hope there is a solution.

What are you trying to do with them? When you use those AVIs as an overlay in V8, ckick on VIEW and settings. Then click on the drop-down arrow and choose LUMA KEY.

Not sure what it looked like in V7, but here is what I got in V8.
