You hijacked a thread, and it would appear that your problem has nothing to do with the thread to which you posted. What is the problem you are having?

Well I just got off the phone with dell, and apparently my video card is not DirectX 10x compatible. Could that be my problem? If so, how can I correct it?

Are you running Vista?
No DirectX 10 is not need to run EMC 10.
30 day $$ back. Contact the site where you bought the software (possibly Digital River.
You probably have an update version of DirectX which doesn't work with EMC 9. You may have the same problem. Read this..

You probably misapplied the post. Do you have a video card that is DirectX 10 compatible? That will usually be a on a new computer running Vista.
You can try to update DirectX 9c. That may help. Go to Windows start, run, type in dxdiag, then click OK. When the Window opens, the last line should tell you what version of DirectX is on your computer. Update that from the MS web site.
While you are there, look at the display tab. On the left will be your video device information; on the right will be the driver version and date. Post that here and we'll help find new drivers for you.
Post your computer specs also; does it meet the minimum requirements. If not, perhaps you should be angry with yourself. We are users so posting obscene language (which will be blocked) doesn't phase us. Also since we do not work for Roxio/Sonic, threats of buying something else also doesn't phase us.
picnic.

DirectX 10 is for Vista, and for video cards that support it. Whoever you talked to at Dell, has no clue about DirectX 10.

The way I read it, Dell didn't suggest DirectX10, the OP found that someone somewhere fixed a problem using that; perhaps in the Vista section of the forum.
To the OP, do not update your computer to DirectX 10. I doubt if you can but if you manage to, it would screw it up more than it already is.
Listen carefully, it sound like you are hung up on the video chip being the issue. You do not have a video card, just a video chip.
1) Did you update DirectX 9c as I suggested? It may have been corrupted by something that was done.
2) The most recent driver for you card is here. It is dated April 2006. Update the driver. You should do this regardless because that could have been corrupted.
I asked but you did not post the date of your video chip driver.
Now, did you look at the link? If so, I hope you noticed my typo. I meant to type DivX and not DirectX.

A really nice Rant, but you listed absolutely no details of you what your Problem is…
In your other thread it was recommended that you go to Dell's site to update the drivers for your video card. It does not appear that you have done that.
So far, you have bought two software packages, EMC 9 Red Box and now EMC 10.
Since neither has worked one has to look at what was common to both? That would be your Laptop!

I believe that your original problem was with a DivX video file. Correct?
DivX (link) is a compressed file format for video files. DirectX is a Microsoft function that runs audio/video/gaming, etc. You may have gotten them confused. The person who talked to you at Dell should be strung up by his(her) thumbs.
Since you were having problems with DivX files, the link I was talking about was one that addressed the issue. You must use the original DivX version for the software to work properly. If you update DivX, it won't work.
This is the link I was talking about. It is a link to a thread about having problems with DivX.
Post back if I misread the original problem.

Where did the avi file come from? Where are you trying to burn it to? Are you trying to make a DVD to play on a DVD player connected to your TV or something else?
It is always a possibility that the file could be bad or not possible to edit while still being able to play it on your computer.
Download and run Gspot. It will tell you a lot about your video including if you have the right codec (code/decode) for it . After running the file, post what it says about the type, the codecs, etc.

LAG, Since EMC 10 was designed to be Vista compatible, it will work with IE 7. EMC 9 has an update to make it compatible with IE 7. Anything earlier (8 and lower) will not work with IE 7 or WMP 11 on the computer.
BTW, you posted to a thread that is almost a month old. The OP never came back and told us if the problem was fixed.
In the future, unless you have a visual impairment, do not use all caps.
