I have a Samsung external dvd writer whose model is SE S204N, firmware is the updated for sure, I can't burn any data onto disc, no matter cdr or dvd-r. the writer sounds work and the indicator is blinking but progress is 0%. Unfornately, I'm unable to stop the DVD writer unless I re-set the computer. The vendor has offered me a new writer so far but...
Hardware or Software problem ? I do shutdown any other application period of burning and de-fragged my harddisk so far !!!

To prove your burner is ok, try writing to disc using the built in burning capabilities of your O/S (XP or Vista).

The burner is OK, I don't think I'm poor enough to get 2 bad samsung DVD writers from same vendor. The problem is power supply. It does work after I remove another USB devices, i.e Mouse/USB harddisk.
Thank you guys, anyway

Get a new PSU, and don't get a cheap one.

It can also depend on which USB ports you're trying to use. Sometimes the only properly 'powered' USB ports are on the back of the computer. ( found that out the hard way )
