I burned a slide show without any error messages onto a Sony DVD+RW
disc. When I tried to view it on my DVD player, it just stops and I get
nothing on the screen. When I try to play this on the same DVD recorder,
all I get is the movie intro. There doesn't seem to be any way to
get to the slides.
When I try to burn a Memorix CD-RW, MyDVD says not compatible
media.
I downloaded this program several months ago, but this is the first
chance I've had to work with it. So far, I'm not impressed.

Hopefully you will be more impressed once you learn how to use the program.
Guessing that your DVD Player does not like DVD 'plus' media. You may have to use DVD 'dash' media.
You didn't say what program you used but it sounds like MyDVD. In MyDVD you commit to the type of project before you start – DVD, VCD or SVCD. You choose DVD thus a CD is not compatible with your project.
You will be better served by creating your slideshow in VideoWave and saving the project file. Then use MyDVD to create the menu interface and add the VW Project file (*.dmsm).

How do I set the type to VCD? Do I have to start all over adding my
photos once I do this?

Open MyDVD
Click on FILE -> New PRoject -> VCD
OR you can
Click on File -> Project Settings and change the current project to VCD
You may be able to just change the current project without reloading all the pictures this way. I haven't tried that.

You will get much better quality burning that production to a DVD instead of making a VCD disk. Try a different brand of media and see if it works in your set top DVD player.

Sorry Gary, it doesn't work in V8 MyDVD that way… You can't change a project once you start, nor will it load a dmsd project file after VCD/SVCD is selected!
Of course we are still assuming she is using MyDVD. Wish folks weren't so shy with information. It isn't like we charge by the word.
