Clipping clipping at lowest recording level

My hook up to a stereo receiver ( pioneer sx-255r) works fine. I've attempted a few recordings and it does work. Problem is I get clipping at the lowest setting on the recording meters. Same case for lp and cassette. So I get a lot of distortion. Any help, suggestions etc? Thanks, 1st post. Jack (Oh, I've got the 30 dollar "recordnow9")

Give us some more info....what type of computer do you have. how are you hooked up from your receiver to the sound card, details, details. It sounds like you are overdriving the input to your computer, but we need more info.

I got it, I forgot to set the level on my soundcard ( a realtek?) I remembered something I read while setting up the computer /stereo. Then I was messing with the Windows sound control (which did nothing, of course), then I stumbled back upon the Realtek. I have made 2 decent recordings since then. Jack. Thanks for inquiring, I'll keep this site handy.
