Dvd Won't Play On My Tv's Dvd Player

The DVD plays fine on computers, even its menu, but will not play on the Toshiba DVD player connected to my TV - all I get is a "Disk Error" message.
I've tried this with Memorex and HP DVD's. Any Suggestions?

And the program you used to burn it to disc is? If it plays on your computer, then the software did its job. Try some Verbatim media, and see if it makes a difference. Memorex is bottom feeder media. Some HP media isn't any better.

re: Verbatim
I see some pretty negative reviews about the large proportion of bad discs in a package, though the ones that do work evidently work well. Is that your experience also?

Roxio EMC 8 has many programs in it. There is NO program, in the suite, called Roxio Media Creator 8.

Oh, OK, I get it - you want to know which component of the Media Creator Suite was used. I used MyDVD 8.

I've burned a couple of thousand Verbatim discs, and haven't had any problems with the discs. They're a good mid-range disc., mostly made by CMC Magnetics and perform quite well.

If a disk plays on my computer, should it also play on a standalone DVD player? I assume the disk needs menu - is that right? And are some file formats better than others for standalone DVD players??
Thanks for your help.

That is repeated here often, but is wrong!
No, IMO they cause a lot of disc error problems.
Thanks for your help.
That depends on the player. Some play DivX, VCD, SVCD, and some even data on a disc! If you want to be sure author a compliant DVD Video disc, that is what they were designed to play.

Hmmm, I have burned a lot of Verbs, but I don't recall ever seeing any CMC Mags. Mine are mostly MCC 04's.

Could you explain in more detail what you mean by this? I've just begun trying to use my DVDs on my standalone DVD player as opposed to my computer, so don't really understand the compatibility issues. Thanks for your help/

Depends on your supplier, probably.
To quote the expert,
Mitsubishi/Verbatim also outsources production to CMC Magnetics Corporation and Prodisc Technology Ltd. in Taiwan, Moser Baer India Ltd. in India. CMC Magnetics Corporation also produces Mitsubishi discs in Ireland and Mexico.
Actually, the best two burns I've ever measured [disc quality 97 and 98] were on CMC MAG E01 discs.
