Use a free software called Image Cropper. There are instructions, on the website, on how to use it. You can get it from here:
http://www.darkwood.demon.co.uk/PC/crop.htm
You can batch crop all of your photos at once. I make a separate folder for the cropped photos, so the originals aren't touched. I then have Image Cropper save to that folder.
Under More Options, for Safe Area Size, start with 85. If it is still too large, pick 80.

I already have all 168 pictures in my video wave production.........do I have to start over and delete and replace everyone?

I don't know which method will be faster, but if you have all the pictures in one folder, and you batch crop those in Image Cropper, to another folder, you can then rename your original folder to something else, and rename the folder that you saved the batch cropped photos to, to the name that you had on the original folder.
This will work if, when you crop the photos in Image Cropper, you have it save the photos as the same name as the ones you brought in. You shouldn't have to do anything in VideoWave, then.

all to simply "fit in the tv safe area of 90%", it seems I have to "select and move the selected area to the safe mode" 100 times,
even though I can batch save them all at once? I thought there would be a way to to just tell it to crop and border everything into
whatever safe area I picked?

Yeesh! :^) I am using Roxio EMC, but since EMC only tells you about the safe zone and won't let you do anything to correct the
underlying issue, I'd like to understand how others using EMC get around this - it would make me enjoy the slideshows I make with
EMC a lot more and perhaps keep buying upgrades to the product. It'd be nice to see the whole picture on my tv, that's all...
For the Image Cropper advice, yes, I am using the icon you put in the screen shot. When I press that "Batch Save" after loading in 100 pictures, it saves all 100 to a new name, as stated, but it only MODIFIES the ones I specifically editted by hand... there's 2 tasks,
getting the tv safe border, and then saving... i.e.
...I load and get 100 pictures in Image Cropper. I edit one to move the selected area to the safe zone and get the black
border. Good so far. I batch save icon, then "save as" like directed, but only that first picture is modifed. Seems like I have to
edit all 100 pictures before pressing batch save - unless there a way to make my actual edit apply to all 100 pictures first,
before batch saving (my real question)? The instructions on the website are not so clear, so I appreciate the help....

You may be missing a step in the Cropper program. First separate any portrait images from landscape images. Load one type. Look at the bottom right; there should be a list of images to process. Set the TV safe zone and select safe fit (or select fit height). Now at the bottom of the page is the "Save as Button". Select that and specify the directory. The first image on the list will probably be in the name list. When you click on save, then entire list of images to be processed will be converted. (You really don't have to separate the landscape from the portrait but this is more convenient if you want to make special arrangements for size.
I just double checked the process and it worked for me with a batch of files. The version number was 1.2.3. If it doesn't work for you, you may have to reinstall.
Also take a look at this post. There are several tools and descriptions.

Perhaps the OP can tell us what version of Cropper that doesn't seem to do batch processing?
Edit: Help menu for new version says:
If you just want to apply a fixed crop or resize process to all the images then the whole batch can be processed automatically.
Open a batch of image files. Preset the selection / resize options and select the 'Batch Mode' . Click 'Save' or 'Save As...' and you will be shown the Save Dialogue. Browse to the folder where you wish to save the processed images. The actual filename is not relevant except for the first image. Click 'Save' and all the files will be processed automatically. To abort at any time press the 'ESCAPE' key.
See my post, above yours.

they did not crop and a make border for me.
Here's what happens for me on Windows XP win V 1.61 ( I can show screen shots, but they look just like the ones posted):
- set Show Safe Area in More Options (now checked)
- set Fit Selection to Safe Area (now checked)
- Load 3 photos - all same size, all landscape mode
- At this point the photos come up with 2 dotted lines, one surrounding the whole photo,
one surrounding the inner safe area - it doesn't look like any processing has occurred
at all.
- If I batch save at this point, I get 3 photos of the same thing I had (whether using
and extensions or new directories).
- If I use the pointer to select and move one of the photos so that the outer dotted line is
in the black and the inner dotted line covers the original photo edeges (puts photo in
safe area), I get a black border lexacyly like I want, but only on that photo, not all 3.
- I I batch save at this point, I get 3 new copies - one cropped/bordered photo and 2 that are
just duplicates of the original.
I "feel" like stting "Fit Selection to Safe Area" should do something when I load the images, but it doesn't. That
feels like the part that isn't working, not the batch save part.
I'll try an earlier version and see what happens...
Thanks for the help, guys - I do appreciate it. I'll get this or something working at some point :^)

UPDATE :^)
Image Cropper Version 1.47 works for me, doing exactly as I had been doing (and coinciding with the
instructions posted) Yay!
When I first load the images, they are already cropped the correct way. In fact, if I load them
without "Fit to Safe Area" set then check it, you can see the picture move. In 1.61, nothing happened...
Completely different behavior between the 2 versions (for me).

Before you bring in any images, put your settings the way I have shown above. Then close Image Cropper, and open it again. Those settings should hold. Now, bring in a couple of pictures as a test. They should appear within the safe zone that you set. Try 80 for that setting.
Edit: You posted while I was doing some checking. Try what I just posted, using the 6.0 version. I don't even see any 6.1 version on the website.

Hi again and thanks, Bruce,
I tried what you said with V 1.61 (the website says v 1.60 for downloads, but when you actually
run it it, help/about shows V1.61)... I probably can no longer download the 1.60 version from
the site?
Still doesn't work, not even for 80%, where 1.47 does.

There's nothing wrong with the 1.47 version. It worked for me many times. I wanted to try out the new format, but I am more used to the earlier versions, like the version that works for you.
