Can someone tell me if it is possible to put in a blank colored panel and add text to it. If so, how? :)

And I have to say, 7.5 was a lot easier to use. This version at first look, is going to be frustrating. It starts off by adding 7 or 8 things to my startup programs and appear to be running all the time because the Hard drive is working constantly. Some of the applications do not start, or maybe they would eventually, because when trying to restart computer, I get a dialog box saying it is ending the application, and each application that did not start gave me the same dialog box.

I will say two nice things about it. They deleted Napster, and the interface looks much better than 7.5. Other than that, I may have to give it a little while to see if I can work things out, but it does not appear I will be able to and will probably switch to Nero. I have used Easy CD creator since Adaptecs early versions, but I am getting to dislike Roxio's software.

First thing tomorrow is uninstall, and do a custom install to see if I can smooth things out a bit.

One other thing, it is not as fast opening applications as 7.5 and I thought 7.5 was slow.

If you have the full version of EMC 8, then the way you add a colored panels has not changed (select a location and right click, use menu that opens). There is an icon that I don't remember in V7 to get to the internal tracks, it is the one on the far left just above storyline or timeline. It looks like a film strip over a bar. Add text the same way as you did before.

The program that is running is categorizing your files. A lot of people find it annoying or worse and turn it off (icon in lower right and left click selection) or select only certain folders to watch.

V8 requires more from your video card and in many cases, your sound drivers (card/chips). To test your video card, open VideoWave 8 and select tools/options. See if the default is hardware or software. If it is software, run the test. If it stays at software, you should update your drivers and or consider installing a "better" card. The program will run on software mode but you will not be able to use the 3D transition (about 100).

Thanks sknis. I can now put a blank panel and add text to it. I have a fast computer and a fast video card, but this suite is the slowest program I have ever worked with. It takes forever to close it's applications and get the Home page back. Roxio should be sued for false advertising when they say you can do things faster. Version 7 was slow, but this one is worse yet. It takes almost as much time to close some of the applications as it takes to shut down Windows.

Which applications do you have trouble closing? Mine close almost instantaneously.

Here is what I did:

I started EMC8 (updated to 8.05).
When the Welcome screen came up it took 17 seconds to load.
I chose DVD & Video Guide on the left.
I chose Create DVD
When the MyDvd opened and showed My Menu I chose File then Exit.
When I hit Exit it was 9:29:48, there was no indication that anything was happening until
the Welcome screen came back at 9:31:21.
After hitting Exit and while I was waiting for the Welcome screen I did an Ctrl+Alt+Delete an found
Videowave still running.

I also chose Applications from the Home tab and started Creator Classic. After closing Creator Classic never did stop running until I had to use ctrl+alt+delete and stop it there.

My computer is an 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 and my graphics card is Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT and this is the only program I have this kind of problem with. Version 7 was slow on my old machine and when I removed it and put it on this one it was still slow, but this version is much worse. I want the 16:9 aspect ratio, but I may be forced to revert back to version 7. And look for a program that works.

Some people reported having similar problems of the apps not releasing memory in the earlier release. Personally, I've never had this problem with either machine listed in my signature.

Have you done anything to optimize Windows in general? Do you have the latest nVidia driver? The latest DirectX? Check the computer manufacturer's website for updated motherboard drivers and BIOS updates. Computers need regular maintenance to keep them running smoothly.

All drivers are up to date, and DirectX is the latest version. This computer is running smoothly except for Roxio software. There were memory problems with Version 7, and the fix from Roxio was something to do with msconfig and the startup configuration. I can't remember exactly what but I think I had to uninstall Roxio software then use a different start up configuration then reinstall Roxio then go back to the normal startup configuration. Roxio software is the only program installed that gives me any problems. If I could get an email to Roxio they might be able to give me the instructions again, but using their support site to find an email address is about as useless as EMC8 is at the present time.

If you know the Roxio support email address will you give it to me and tell me where you found it and where I probably overlooked it?

Did you go to the Startup tab in msconfig and uncheck the RoxWatch box? Actually, you uncheck anything with Roxio or Sonic.

I did that with no effect. I also uninstalled EMC and EMC content, changed msconfig to start with no startup items, rebooted, installed EMC and Content again, changed msconfig back to normal configuration and restarted. That had no effect either. Sometimes I even have to use ctrl+alt+delete to stop Roxio_Central.exe from running. It sure seems to me that Roxio's programmers don't handle memory very well since Roxio's software is the only one that gives me problems. Even Microsofts bloated programs work fast.

Actually, it looks more like you have other issues going on with your computer. List here, what you have checked in the Startup tab in msconfig.

I unchecked some stuff, but it does not make any difference. I uninstalled, and reinstalled again, but I still have the problem. After restarting I tried the Create DVD again and when I exited and checked ctrl+alt+delete after a while Videowave was still running. I also did not install the content disc this time.

I can't see one thing there that needs to be checked.

Also, in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services, have you changed all Roxio items to manual, instead of automatic? If not, try that, too.

That does not make any difference either. If the applications would just quit running when I close them everything would be alright I believe.

And like I said before, the Roxio program with it's applications is the only one that does this.

What is the difference between MyDVD8 and VideoWave8?

Videowave is the 'video editor'
MyDVD is the 'DVD authoring tool'

Technically they are integrated into one videowave8.exe file. However when you click on the 'edit movie' inside MyDVD, that part of Videowave does have some limitations when compared to when Videowave is run separately.

Was just wondering because when I click on Create DVD the MyDvd form comes up and VideoWave shows in the running processes.

Time to stop for the day. Been at this for 3 days now and can't get it fixed.

Well back to the grind. I have just seen another glitch. Under applications if I choose MyDvd the Home Page minimizes to the task bar and immediately comes back, then after a wait MyDvd comes up on top of it.

Still have not found the fix for the applications not closing or closing after minutes of waiting, causing other applications not to open until the waiting is over.

Have you tried launching any applications outside of the HOME? Personally, I hate those things and find it rather idiotic to run a program to run a program. After all that IS why Microsoft designed the START menu for! If I had a choice, I would not install the HOME application at all.

Just as a test, launch Videowave from the Start -> Programs->RoxioEMC8->DVD & Video->Videowave

Let it fully load and then close it. Wait about a minute after it closes. Is it still in memory?

Well that gives me something else to work on. I did as you suggested and when I closed it I did not have to wait a minute it stopped running almost immediately. That seems to indicate to me that the UI is where the problems arise. I will try a few more to make sure they close when they should.

Thanks ggrussell. Everyone of the applications open and close immediately. Even RecordNow Copy which opens the Home page with the Copy guide expanded. I did not try any of the items there.

For patatrox: Please note that all the applications open and close immediately if the UI is eliminated. Using the UI they may or may not open or close.
