Hello,
I've been trying to burn a DVD with my new Roxio software and it's taking forever! I switched from MyDVD Plus to Easy Media Creator 10 and haven't been able to successfully burn a DVD. I've checked my drivers to make sure they didn't need updating. I've read the instruction manual 3 times, read the help section multiple times, and asked "Roxie" several times. Now I come to you for help oh wise ones. Is anyone else having this problem? I make the movie and get it ready to burn, click on "burn" and the preview pane comes up saying it's encoding. But after 2 hours, it's only 15% encoded...Any suggestions?
Thanks.

List the programs that you used to create and burn your production. What types of files are in your production? What is the total length, in time, of your production? List your computer specs, similar to how I have mine listed in my signature.

Yes, don't burn it to a disc. Save as a ISO Image file and use copy and convert EMC 10 program to burn that to a disc. Encoding takes time I let one run all night, it took 12 hours 38 minutes. The encoding time is system specific, bigger faster pc less time.

Okay, here goes. I'll try the best I can.
Dell Dimension DIM9100
Intel Pentium
CPU 2.8 ghz x 2 (I think)
1 GB RAM
Philips DVD+-RW DVD 8631
Windows XP home edition
Media Center Edition Version 2002
EMC Suite 10
The file that makes up the production is just a movie I DVR'd and wanted to burn to DVD. It's a little over 2 hours long.

Like I said, the MyDVD Plus worked fine with burning to DVD, just didn't have as many bells and whistles as the EMC10 has. But if I can't get it to burn, what good are bells and whistles?

I tried to save as an ISO file just now, and it keeps trying to encode it anyway. I don't check the burn to disc box, only the save as disc file box, but still get the preview pane saying it's encoding. Is it supposed to do that?

The mydvd part.

If the video files, "production is just a movie I DVR'd and wanted to burn to DVD." are not DVD compliant the encoding will happen. If you get a gray box the application is not re-encoding the project. Try video copy and convert with your DVR'd file, and try to burn to a disc, what happens?

Sugarfeet, it that Philips burner still works, you have probably set a world's record for life of it. It has been known to be a Dell mistake. You can read about it, here:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/179003

The rest of the computer is good to go, but what video card do you have? There may be something wrong with one of the files in the production, if it still won't encode when you burn to an .iso file, without trying to burn directly to the DVD.

I burned the ISO file last night and I think it took a couple of hours (I fell asleep). This morning I'm burning the DVD from that, and it seems to be working. Not finished yet, but can hear it spinning. Thanks for all your help. Regarding the Philips burner, this is the longest I've ever had a burner. We had a Sony computer a couple of years ago that the internal burner broke within a couple of burns and bought 2 external burners that both broke after the first time using them with the Sony. The Sony went bye-bye. Thanks again.

I am glad to see that you got it to burn properly. A couple of hours really isn't long, when you are talking video encoding.

Well, I think I spoke too soon. I burned it to DVD successfully but the quality is very poor. The audio is off and video is very poor also. I don't know. I'm about to give up and just go back to old faithful (MyDVD plus).
Thanks,
