Emc10 Label Creator - Printer Listed But Can't Print
#1
Posted 23 February 2008 - 10:53 PM
Problem: In Label Creator v10 under File/Print, under Printer; I see my HP Photosmart D5360 listed “HP Photosmart D5300 series", and after selecting it, I can also go into Properties and select “Print on CD/DVD" and make other selections. But, the problem is; under Media I only see "standard paper", "commercial paper", and "print to disk". I've tried all choices but do not see any options to print directly to CD/DVD disks. No mater what I choose, it only allows me to print to CD/DVD paper labels, not to printable disks.
How do I print directly onto printable CDs or DVDs with my HP Photosmart D5360?
Thanks!

Do you really have XP Sp3? Perhaps that is the problem.
or perhaps it is similar to the D5360. Read this.

Is there someone here at Roxio that actually has an HP Photosmart direct-print disk printer and has figured out how to use v10 to do this? Or maybe suggest a competitive direct-to-disk printing application that works with HP printers? Affter all, this is not a brand new thing ... and I would think Roxio should have adjusted their products to remain competitive.

This isn't Roxio. This is a users forum, and we are users, like you. Dudepatch was a "hit and run" poster. He never came back to let folks know if it worked for him.
Why don't the steps, in the link work?

Bruce, the steps listed DO NOT WORK with v10 of this software. They were obviously written by someone using v9, and as I've already indicated, Roxio has made enough changes in v10 that you CANNOT follow the steps ... primarily because most of the menu choices and steps listed are not in v10.
ps Bruce ... while I agree this forum is a user forum ... it is run by ROXIO! Look at the url dude!
Gary Gary Gary ... yes, I've read thru the steps several times (scratching my head continuously as I read the steps I might add), and as I've said, people with v10 CANNOT follow the steps listed that work for v9. Is really just that simple. Roxio needs to take it's head out of the sand and realize there are millions of potential customers out there that want to print directly on a disc ... using an HP printer ... not just on a label to stick on a disc. I'm one of them, and you can't use v10 to do it.
Now IF I'm wrong ... would someone please stand up and tell us all EXACTLY how to do this using v10 ... not v9.

Yikes!!! Sorry for looking like a "hit and run poster". I've been very busy lately, and just now have had the opportunity to check on my original post.
One thing I’d like to add is that, although I understand how to create a custom template, the remaining problem is that when I lower the HP-5360’s CD/DVD printing guide and insert the CD/DVD drawer with disk, Roxio v10 complains and asks me to raise it back up in order to print to “plain paper” or paper “labels” during printing…. How do I tell Roxio v10 to just print to the CD/DVD disk using the CD/DVD drawer?
I did follow the above link’s instructions but it didn’t work.
Thanks again!

5. IN Roxio EMC Label Creater
Select File: Print
Ensure HP Photosmar 5100 series is selected in the Printer Name window.
Select the Properities Button next to the Printer Name window (a new window will open).
In the Properties Window for this printer under features ensure the following settings:
Print Quality: Best
Paper Type: (HP or Other) Inkjet-printable CD/DVD
Paper Source: CD/DVD Tray
Landscape should be selected
Resizing Options, Size: CD/DVD, 120 mm
Print at actual size should be selected
Select OK (you will return to the Label Creater Print Window)
In The Label Creater Print Window select OK
I have an EPSON print and I can't print either if I don't tell the printer driver to select the CD/DVD tray. Just because I have a printer on the 'list', doesn't mean that I can skip that step.

Ok, I'm currently sitting in front of Roxio Label Creator v10. I have followed the above steps. But just before I press "Ok" to start the print, I still see "Media" "Standard Paper", and "Paper type" with "Letter....". When do these settings get changed?
Now, when I continue following the steps above, I'm instructed to press "Ok" to start my print, but this is what comes up:
"To ensure the printer aligns properly, we recommend to calibrate HP Photosmart D5300 series printer." "Do you wish to proceed now? If you prefer to do it later, you can select the Calibrate option in Print dialog." "Ok", "Cancel".
I trided both, printing an alignment page and not printing one. However, it will only print to "Plain paper," and will not even try to print to my printable CD disk, and gives me an error to insert "Plain paper".... If I try "Cancel," it dumps me out. Apparently it really wants this allignment. So.... I go with the whole allignment thing following the instructions it gives closely, keep in mind that its always having me insert "Plain paper", no printable CDs yet requested. I tried once to force it to use a printable CD for this alignment thing, but it refuses to print to printable CDs, only paper.
Now that I'm all done, it tells me to: "Please load Generic (plain paper) for disk (1 sheets) into the printer." "Click ok when you are ready." "ok" or "cancel" If I click "ok", yep; my CD creation gets printed onto plain paper.... If I go ahead and ignore their instructions to insert Plain Paper and I insert my printable CD disk, and click "ok", nothing prints out and my HP 5360 gives me a Pop-Up; warning me that my CC/DVD print drawer is open and to close it. So, I remove my CD and close the drawer and the project gets printed out onto a blank piece of paper.
Where do I go from here?

Well since you mention it Bruce, I find it very interesting that "someone" with Admin priviledges here (could it be a Roxio person ya think?) has completely removed my post just prior to yours that I made yesterday advising "users" I had solved my problem with direct printing on cd's by tossing EMC v10 in the trash and installing a (very inexpensive) competitive product. Which by the way works perfectly with HP Photosmart printers with nothing more than a few mouse clicks. I'm sorry I can't (obviously) mention the competitive product here for fear this post will be cowardly removed also by the Admins. But I'd sure be happy to provide this wisdom to anyone who PM's me.

I didn't see it, but I don't see why it would be removed. I am sure that there are many folks who have gone to a different software to get their HP printers to work.

Bruce, I just tried to send dudepctech a PM to explain how I solved my similar problem, and found they've even shut my mail off so I can't send PMs. Gee, they (obviously Roxio Admins) must be worried I might turn away a customer (who's already paid for their crap software) to a competor who sells a working product for HP printers at 25% of the cost of EMC 10. So you still think there are "no Roxio people" around here? They're reading every word bro ... and cowardly deleting the words they don't like. Roxio is black-listed for me now ... I wouldn't touch their products again if they sent me free stuff for the rest of my life.
ps ... I'm expecting this post to be deleted in the next 24 hours or sooner, so if you don't get a chance to read it ... sorry.

Good guess ... but not correct, as I only mentioned the name of the competitive product. Didn't post any link to it.
It's a sad world here when a company can't accept their product might have flaws or be inferior to a competitors product.

Good guess Bruce, but not correct. There is only 1 item in my inbox. And any other site I'm on has a message that pops up when your mailbox is at capacity and tells you to clean it up (bet you got that reminder last week). And even though I've tried several times yesterday to send PMs to members with HP printers having problems, Roxio has shut off my ability to send PMs (geez ... are they worried what I might suggest to someone?).

I doubt that you are being blocked unless you were posting under another name and were banned for those earlier posts. Individuals can block incoming pm's. I haven't seen the Administrator for a couple of weeks so I doubt that he did it. He is not bashful and will tell you when you puts you on "moderator approval".
What browsers are you using. When there was a recent switch to a new server, a lot of people had problems. Firefox and IE 7 seem to work OK; some people still have issues with IE 6 and some other lesser used browsers.
There is no conspiracy directed at you.
