Can a backup be made on a network drive that includes the System State? I have a Win2000 system with a CD-R drive (cannot write) and want to backup over a network through an XP system with a CD-RW drive. The resulting backup must be able to fully restore the Win2000 system from a format to a working drive. Does selecting "Backup the System State" backup the Win2000 or XP state?

If you are using a Win 2000 [ Pro SP4 ] computer, the system state you will backup will be that for Windows 2000.

Thank you for your response. Just want to be sure I understand your comment before proceding. (If I reformat the Win2000 drive and cannot restore fully from the CD I will be in trouble.)

If I backup the Win2000 Pro SP4 computer over the network from the XP computer (XP running BUMP 5.0) and check the "Back up the system state" box (Job > Options > Advanced) the Win2000 backup state will be stored on the CD. That way I can format the Win2000 computer and use the backup CD to restore the Win2000 computer to its original state. Correct?

I don't believe any Sonic/Roxio software is designed to work over a network.  I could be wrong, but it'd be a major risk.  Can't you get an external drive and install software on the Win2000?

Actually I have a Mitsumi CR-4XGTE CD-RW on the Win2000 machine but BUMP 5.0 will not recognize it. (Other applications do.) If this drive worked I would do the backup locally. (Sounds like I am starting another thread?) Rather than resolve that issue I thought it would be easier to do it over the network.
