How can I insert a new panel in Wave 10 and get all the overlays, sound, and text to move over to right on the time line and stay in sync with each other.  Currently, I can only get the video/pics to move over then all my sound and overlays are off time.

If those overlays, sound and text apply only to a single frame of video or still image, then put all those items using the internal track of that video/still image. However, it those items span several videos/still images, then you have to move them manually whenever the videos/still images get shifted. Hopefully, inserting a new panel between existing ones that have external overlays/sound/text with them is not the norm.

Just to add onto malatekid's post, I've found the easiest way to move everything that isn't contained in the internal tracks is to note the duration of the element you are inserting and then click the upper most right-hand overlay or text after the insertion and then shift click the last overlay or text to select it all at once and then slide it over the same amount of time as what you inserted. It will all stay selected as long as you don't click in any of the tracks, so you can adjust the entire group after zooming in or out or scrolling to check for placement. Sometimes an element will be out of range so I just do those separately (like a music track that starts above/to the right of the selection.

Another alternative if the part that get shifted is a big section (vides/photos with numerous overlays/external audio/text), you may want to generate an mpg output first for that section alone and then insert that in your production.

Hi malatekid, question for you:

From what I understand, if you output to mpeg and then add it back to your production in VW, when you go to burn the production, the part you pre-output won't render again (those parts are gray screen in preview). So, if you use this method you won't  get any decrease in quality, even though it seems like you are processing it twice, you actually aren't since when outputting again, it skips the part that was pre-rendered. Do I have this correct? This would be a great time saver for long projects as well as a safety measure, since you could back up the output mpeg sections externally without worrying about file structure. Thanks smile.gif

Unfortunately, that is the ONLY way to get it done. As some mentioned, any sound or overlay in the internal track of a clip/panel will move with that clip/panel.  However, we can not move clips, sound and overlays together if they are external tracks.  In fact, you can't move a panel at all and leave a blank space so you can insert something.  Perhaps a feature we can ask for in future versions?

You can move several overlays, sounds or effects at one time by holding the Control Key while selecting each and then dragging them together.

Yes, that mpg2 output will not be rendered anymore (during render, MyDVD should show a gray screen when it renders that portion meaning it is doing a smart rendering) and there is no decrease in quality of that mpg.

Thanks again to the forum for your help.  I ended up selecting all the items between two points with the shift button and sliding it over.  I have always tried to do as much as I can in the internal tracks however I had music overlapping several panels.  I am doing a trade show video for a client and at the last minute they wanted to insert a few items.  It would be nice if Roxio made it possible to insert a panel and slide everything over.  Thanks again.
