Hi all,

I have just got EMC 9 today to put on my xp pro system, but it just will not install at all.

I have spent 3 hours lurking here to find out how to fix it, have done all the clean installs, disabled all other processes, copied to hdd and tried it from there, but all to no avail.

What happens is this (all from either cd or hdd, makes no difference)

Dbl click on setup.
agree to terms
put in key
window appears to show it's installing and may take several minutes.
after less than a few seconds window appears to say it has installed and do i want to see the readme file or whatever it is.
readme file (or whatever) tries to display but msg says no preview is available.
Close that

No software, no nothing from Roxion or Sonic, except the Roxio entry in prog mgr and in registry.

No disc reading actually seems to take place from since clicking on setup - disc certainly not being read during "installation"

What is going on here?!?!?!..... like i say, no difference whether loading from cd or hdd.

I am going absolutely mental here with this, so Please Help Me!!!!!!

Thanks in anticipation to you all,

Nick. dry.gif

Copy your Program CD onto your HD and run Setup from that.

Thanks for looking, Jim, but like I say in my OP in both the second para and third from last I've Done That!

I did spend a very long time looking for an answer on here to no avail before posting my request for help, and really have done all that has been suggested in similar posts before mine.

What's the best way to go about getting a refund on this if no positive solution is forthcoming?

Thanks.

You need to contact Roxio Customer Support. Click on the Support icon in the upper right side of your screen.

Did you disable Defender, or any antivirus software that you run, before trying to install?

Nick you did spell out the 'copy to hd' quite clearly – Twice!

I am sorry I somehow did not see that… I would have never wasted your time repeating what you had already tried!

One other thing to try is to download and use Windows Uninstaller Clean up utility to remove any Roxio/Sonic programs listed and then do a re-install.

You can find out more about that utility here.

Thanks for that, though I've tried all that too!

What I have managed to achieve now is a successful install on another xp machine and it all runs fine - even managed to produce a 400 pic dvd slideshow in fact!

What I am now considering is installing another copy of XP on my machine on a diffferent primary partition and making it dual boot. I can then keep the second "clean" copy just for editing etc in EMC. Bit daunting though, but I have done it before with win 98 and XP. Just need to get more advice on this now before I do it though. Anyone?!?
